May 31, 2011 - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - JEFFERSON COUNTY – Work is underway to resurface U.S. 285 through Turkey Creek Canyon, between State Highway 8 (Morrison exit) and the Parmalee Gulch Interchange (Indian Hills).
Project hours are as follows – Monday through Thursday:
--Southbound – 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
--Northbound – 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Only one lane will be open to traffic on southbound OR northbound U.S. 285 during work hours so some slowing should be expected along with possible traffic delays of up to five minutes. A reduced 40 mph speed limit also will be in effect so motorists are reminded to please Slow for the Cone Zone, stay alert and pay attention to and obey all work zone/advisory signs and flaggers.
The estimated completion date for the project is Thursday, June 26.
“New asphalt will provide the traveling public with a smoother road surface that’ll last at least ten years,” says Colorado Department of Transportation Project Engineer Anthony Anderson. “Safety also will be enhanced by the new striping, since it’ll improve visibility along the highway, especially at night.”
CDOT is rotomilling and asphalt paving the roadway as part of a road improvement project that began in the canyon last fall. It included rock mitigation, concrete median barrier construction, new guardrails, and shoulder improvements.
Brannan Sand and Gravel Co. of Denver, CO. is the prime contractor.
FASTER – Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery – funded $700,000 of the $1.7 million project. FASTER is funded by vehicle registration fees, with the Safety Fund used for construction, reconstruction, or maintenance projects that the Transportation Commission, a county or municipality have determined are necessary to enhance safety on a state highway, county road, or city street. ***Alert on 6-10-11****
Due to a disabled vehicle in the work zone, crews have been unable to pick up the scheduled lane closure on westbound US 285 between Knox Court and Sheridan Boulevard. As a result, motorists may experience major delays throughout this evening's rush hour and alternate routes are strongly advised.
