I have a possible Win32/Starter infection.

Are there any reliable tools that can help remove this?

If your online and running, I have had good results with Trend micro housecall.

There is also the free "microsoft security essentials" for newer systems, not sure how good it is.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

I'm checking on a possible trojan.

There's some evidence that this trojan has infected a family machine
(there's a mysterious directory, which is frequently created by this trojan).

I run avast on the machine - so suspect (hope?) it's simply left-over fingerprints

Well, there is this program I use to detect what the issue is. There is chance it won't work with the trojan on there though.

Truthfully for me, if I get something that bad. I reformat/reimage the whole drive. Something like a bad trojan is hard to clean.

Avast is not the best software out there. They say Panda is really good.

I use Norton because it is free with Comcast. I think Mcafee would be better than what you are using and you can get that free for six months if you like their FB page. http://www.facebook.com/McAfee?v=app_216371893645

But right now I would back up whatever you can and just reimage your drive.

Ahh, you started it! :)

What did the trojan say as it flew thru the air?
