Heard from friends again. After their evac from Rist Canyon they were staying with friends who had to be evacuated. They all are now in Loveland.
We were talking about people not leaving and friend said that several of her neighbors stayed and saved her home and several others. There aren't enough f.f./units for all the homes. They are staying put. On generators for elec to access water. Now friends wish they could go back and help.
I spent most of the evening listening to the scanner for the Larimer county area. A bit surprised with what I was hearing. Guess I would consider staying home too. Glad the Type I's are coming.
Prayers for all.

“When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Could you elaborate a little more? I'm not understanding what I've quoted. Thanks.

Please keep in mind that this channel might not be representative of others f.f. in the area, but there was much confusion and disarray. There clearly were not enough units to do much with so many homes to protect. How they chose was interesting. It just wasn't the most professional. I can understand listening to this why some residents chose to stay home and protect their own.
Also after talking with friends who were evacuated, some neighbors stayed behind and saved their homes by wetting down the area and doing other things and saved our friends' home, not by wetting it down but by putting out the spot fires. No f.f. available to help.
I don't advocate staying when there is a mandatory evacuation but I am sure everyone has to make their own decision depending on the situation.
I don't know much about ham radios but apparently someone has one and has been able to get information out about their particular area which has been much more helpful to others than the info they are receiving from officials.

I wonder how they were able to get water into the hose if they are on a well and the power is out?
Again, risking your life to save your home is just plain stupid, IMO. Didn't they learn anything from the Conifer fire? A home can be replaced. Your life can't.
Listening to the scanner today for Larimer county, a number of people asking if they can retrieve animals and property. Most denied because some areas are still hot, but a couple have been given an escort.

I heard one of the briefings. They said no obvious signs it was man caused. Likely a lightning strike that smoldered for several days. They have more important tasks for personnel right now than expending resources to investigate the start.
I'm amazed how cool Radio Reference is. I can listed to the fire scanner on my computer and/or my phone!

I asked the same question. Power is out and they are on generators. One family has a permanent big diesel type generator to wet the immediate area, others smaller generators.
I was wondering how the wind doesn't just dry out everything they are doing.
As for risking your life, I don't know enough of their circumstances so I have to believe that they made the decision that was right for them.
