After hearing and reading this story about Missy; I feel really hurt that this dog or any other animal having to go thru this type of abuse.
My question is; what makes some people think that some of their actions is right for their pet because it's their choice to have fun.
Mountain/rock climbing is dangerous and taking your pet is totally insane. Everyone should stop and think about the welfare of your
love ones; regarding your a friends, spouse, children and pets.

I said this irresponsilbe dog owner should be fined big time and not get this dog back. However, the question is; he'll just get another
dog and abuse that one too. Another question; how can society stop people like this abusing their pets?

Attention all pets owners: Stop and think about the welfare of your pet. Including going to the store and keeping your pet in hot cars.
Leaving your pet outside alone for cougar/bear bait. etc etc etc

Being a mountain climber I have encountered some who bring their pets and know how to care for them.

Obviously this person was beyond the scope of understanding how to fix the problem, especially when on Sawtooth. If anyone has ever traversed it, it isn't easy and some have died.

Where he failed miserably was in not following up no matter what his circumstances were.

Hopefully some serious consequences for his failure but more importantly hopefully he has learned something from all of this.

Owner wants her back

Two Denver hikers are locked in a bitter battle over the fate of a German Shepard named Missy, who was abandoned by one and then rescued by another at 13,000 feet.
Scott Washburn found the dog bloodied and near-death atop Colorado's Mt Bierstadt and then organized a search and rescue party to save her.
He wants to keep the dog, alleging that Anthony Ortolani lacks the ability or compassion to care for the creature, which went without food and water for eight days.
But Mr Ortolani says he didn't abandon the animal, an oncoming storm forced him to choose between staying by her side and perishing, or going down the mountain without her.

Edwards said mountain communities should make some provisions for rescuing stranded pets. "We would hope that there be some sort of process in place to assist animal owners who choose to take their beloved pets up into the mountains," she said.

Really? Since when is it more the responsibility of mountain communities than it is the owner's responsibility? How about the city of residence of the owner making provisions for rescuing stranded pets?

Beloved pet? Puhleeze. He left her to die. I'm delighted she'll be living with someone who cared enough to save her.

I watched this last night. They really didnt mention what actually happened. But it was nice of Columbia Sportswear to donate $2500 to each of the rescuers and for Ellen to donate canteens. (I was really expecting her to give them underwear).

Not so surprisingly, the majority of conservatives who visit Glenn Beck's website theblaze.com thought the dog owner should not have been charged for leaving the dog to die on the mountain. (poll at the bottom of the story)
