They are lots of fun. I got a Moultrie for Christmas last year.

Got some Deer, Fox, and Racoons so far. Movies too of the little fawns running around in June.
My camera works ok, its not an expensive model so the night pics are not that great. Day pics are pretty good, but sometimes blurry.

Pros
Easy to use and strap to any tree
Doubles as a security cam when you are not home
Can get close up pics if you locate it properly

Cons
Wind/trees sets it off, lots of pics to review with no critters
Night pics disappointing
Lots of blurry pics and half pics out of sight
Batteries go down fairly quick if you leave it on 24/7

I'll post a few pics when I get the computer that has them stored.

My best recommendation would be spend a little money on one that takes good night pics, or leave some outside lights on. I keep my lights out. Also throw some peanuts down for bait (cheating) :)

There was another thread here: http://mymountaintown.com/forums/photo- ... d=noscript

I think Grady has one too and had some good tips.

Thanks for the link. We're willing to spend more for good night pics, which is our primary interest.

Grady, what camera do you use, and how is it for night photos?

Only suggestion I have is to use NiCad or another rechargeable battery and spring for the solar charger to keep them topped off if you don't want to be buying a lot of batteries. I got CS a Moultrie for her birthday a few years back and she has a lot of the same cons that LOL does on his.

They are kind of fun to have - especially when you keep hearing something going bump in the night but you never quite get a glimpse of exactly what it is.

Don't forget to share some of the pics with all of us if you decide to get one!

Great suggestion. I didn't know there were solar chargers but will definitely look into one. Thanks.

Yep solar charger and if the cam has an external DC connection a motorcycle battery is a good idea. I've left cameras out in the woods for months on end, only going out to swap the SD card. Which brings up the point I think most cams these days do have removable SD cards. Also with most cams you can adjust the resolution settings, so if you are looking to leave a cam out for long time looking for game patterns you can set it to low res pictures. Or you can capture some pretty high res pics.

These are from a cam we left out July into September.

Note to SC I like the RIMG option for posting pics, good job

Nice! Which model do you have? Does it shoot at night?

Thank you all for your help. I have a much better starting place now, and will check out Cabela's and BassProShop.

Thanks for the information on the BassProShop. Not familiar with this one. They have lots of cameras.

Has anyone ever used the security box? Or has anyone had their's removed?

Never had one disappear. I once caught a whole string of hikers up near Boreas Pass, they must have seen the camera.

You put it in the national forest or you live up there and it didn't disappear?
