Heading north on 285 heading into Turkey Creek Canyon everyone jumps into the merge lane up to a mile early... then I leisurely travel down the open, unoccupied lane, going past everyone who merged early until I get to the actual merge point and THEN merge.
Once, someone gave me a gesture out the window like "What are you doing?" and another tried to move out from his lane to block me (I went around him). If you want to merge a half mile before the merge point that's your problem.
You merge at the merge point. That's why it's called a merge point.
I so agree with you... I do not understand why people want to merge so far in front of the merge point, then get mad at you because you choice to merge at the merge point where DOT suggest us all to merge. Completely bizarre to me. Merge early and often if you choose.
It actually makes it faster for me passing all the EM's (early mergers) when going thorough a slow construction zone. Help's me get on with my business faster. So I guess I should be thanking all the EM's. So here is a shout out to all the EM's out there! woo hoo!!!
:woo hoo:
I agree. I don't know where people got the idea that everyone should merge at different points along the road. This only causes more backups as you increase the number of merge points. It must be a Colorado thing as this is the only place I have ever seen this behavior.
Actually....I thought everyone was supposed to drive in the right lane unless they are passing.
Though I do not think it is right to flip people off who merge at the merge point.....I don't see anything wrong with early mergers. I just think folks should remember that you have a chose to merge early or late.
If you merge early....be friendly and let the late merger in rather than cutting them off and flipping them the bird.
This was a nightmare area a short while ago. We were cut off so many times by people trying to chastise us for using the right lane. It was quite a long way before the merge. Merge where it shows to merge, not before. It's kinda the zipper effect. I seriously doubt that traffic would be so tied up if everyone was polite and just worked together. My new philosophy: in life, there will always be someone ahead of you and someone behind you.
(OK, I'm done ranting! This has been building up for all the years that 285 has been under construction.)
Guess it must be a Colorado thing.........I always figured I did NOT want to 'fight" the thing(merge)so I just merged when safe and
convenient(gestures with the middle finger tend to tick me off AND in today's less than courteous culture I didn't want to confront
as ass--- trying to rule the road with his big ass dooley truck.) :Whistle Guess it's the same thing with wanting to put a "buffer zone"
around me and my car......space forward, space behind and if at all possible, space on each side of my vehicle.....so IF the stupid
selfish "me first" driver got in trouble at least I had a CHANCE of avoiding an accident/death......I see it as DEFENSIVE DRIVING,but then
that's just me as a COLORADO born person( I guess)
