Breaking news. Dan Wheldon killed in fiery crash

LAS VEGAS • Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon died Sunday in a fiery 15-car wreck at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when his car flew over another on Lap 13 and smashed into the wall just outside turn 2.

Wheldon was 33. Drivers were told of Wheldon's death in a meeting about two hours after the fiery, smoky crash that many drivers said was the worst they had ever seen.

He won the Indianapolis 500 twice, including this year.

How sad. You don't here of too many fatalities in car racing these days.

The Indy guys were just driving thru the streets of Las Vegas as a promotion for this race.

IT was a really bad one. I cannot believe he was the only one that got hurt. According to what I saw on ESPN news, they said that track is way too fast. 15 cars. I have never seen a crash like that in Indy racing. .

According to the article two other drivers were hurt. They were reaching speeds of 225 mph during practice. For that track, yes that seems too fast.

I am in shock. I do like Indy racing. I always thought Danica could do better if she concentrated more on racing and less on advertising herself. Wheldon is now up there with Earnhardt.

Okay, I am going to take an Ibuprophen and go back to bed. I got up to check my mail and got that alert. I will be thinking of his family. RIP Wheldon.

What makes it even worse, he wasn't even supposed to be in the race.

When they first built the track I went out there and I thought then that it was unsuitable for open wheel racing, I guess I was right. Way too much banking
