Hey BD, whats up with some of the weird opening spreads on covers this week. How do they set the open numbers? Looks like they goofed up on several.

Well they never goof up..... what they are trying to do is get exactly 50% bet on both sides. They don't care who wins, they want 50% bet on one team and 50% bet on the other, and they take 5% of everything wagered. No risk- Books do not take risks and if the betting is uneven they move the line to attract bets on team thats not getting enough action. They guage the betting public's perceptions of the two teams when they set the lines and the few guys setting the initial lines in Vegas have been doing it a long long time. They'll set the line and the rest of the world watches how the betting is going, and when the line is stable- The rest of the world puts it out on Monday or Tuesday. Not too many people get a crack at the opening lines. The sharks pounce on them-I did when my kids were at UNLV- I'd tell them all the time to bolt from class right now and head down Tropicana to whatever casino to get some money down for me- You gotta be fast though

Their open spreads conflict with the open spreads on their mobile site. I'm thinking a computer glitch on the main one...but who knows. Can't imagine the same company could have 2 different open spreads, but what do I know. On the pick 3, we are using the mobile site opening spreads.
