We just want to remind everyone that evacuations will stay in place tonight and we will reevaluate in the morning. This is for everyone's safety as we evaluate the weather and fire behavior conditions throughout the evening. Public and firefighter safety is our number one priority, as we suppress this wildfire. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Teller County Sheriff's Office April 1 Morning Briefing - Video

Teller County 411

1 Apr 2023 9:30 am - Briefing from TCSO -

Fire burn area is 1,250 acres with 25% Containment, No structures lost.
1st priority is the safety and protection of the first responders.

Fire is just on the line of Teller County and Park County. Currently TCSO doesn't have information to share. When they have information they will get it out immediately. The reason they don't have updated information on a regular basis is that due to terrain, winds and not being able to use air craft it is harder to have that information, unlike other fires when they could use air craft. As the winds die down, the more likely air craft can come in.

Everbridge is not an information system. It is an emergency alert system and it contacts those in the immediate areas of danger. Nixle was a good system, but due to our population growth, Nixle could not handle the traffic and notifications that needed to get those in immediate danger were not getting them.
Due to the nature of the fire, terrain, wind speed/direction and fuel, it is not known yet when evacuees can return to their homes. Subdivisions have trees near their homes and some have only one road in/out. We also have larger populations now and it takes more manpower to evacuate and keep the residents and properties safe. We are also starting our fire season earlier than usual.

No news is good news. They will try to take pictures and post those as they can, do not expect to receive updates every hour, as there is no new information to put out. If they have information it will be put out immediately.

Power Outage yesterday was not a result of the fire, but the winds and downed trees.
No homes have been hit with slurry/fire retardant.

They are good on donations and will post if they need more.

As Park County came to talk the video cut out.
