Today’s Activity:
Today firefighters continued to make good progress on line construction on the north and northeast flanks of the fire perimeter. In addition to constructing line, firefighters worked to extinguish interior hot spots. Reports from the line are that the low humidity and gusty winds made it easier for fire personnel to identify those areas that needed additional work.

Tonight firefighters will monitor the fire perimeter as well as the interior looking for and mopping up any hot spots they find. They will also continue to patrol and mop up around structures within the fire perimeter. The Incident Management Team is also requesting an Infrared flight which will help identify areas of heat that may be smoldering but not easy to spot.

Public SafetyMessage:
Residents and the general public are reminded to take responsibility for their safety by obeying fire area closures, evacuation orders, and roadblocks.

Fourmile Canyon Fire Update
For Immediate Release Sept. 11, 2010 8:00 a.m.

Website Info: http://www.inciweb.org

General Information/Announcements:
An infrared flight was flown during the night. Infrared is commonly used on incidents because it provides fire officials a quick, fairly accurate overview of where the fire is burning the hottest. The infrared unit, built in to the belly of a plane, scans the ground as the plane flies over the area. Data is transmitted to a specialist, called an Infrared Interpreter, who interprets the data and transfers it to a map that is used by firefighters. The results of last night’s flight show several areas of isolated heat, but no large pockets of intense heat as was seen previously.

Closures/Advisories/Evacuations:

Today’s Activity:
Last night firefighters were tasked with monitoring the fire perimeter as well as the interior, and extinguishing any hot spots they might find. This morning they reported that during their patrols, very few hot spots were found.

Within the fire perimeter, there are still pockets of unburned vegetation. A priority for today will be to focus on areas of heat identified by the infrared flight, especially those near structures and unburned areas. Line construction will also continue on the north and south flanks of the fire.

Public Safety Message:
Residents and the general public are reminded to take responsibility for their safety by obeying fire area closures, evacuation orders, and roadblocks.
