September 8 Noon Press Release
Incident: Four Mile Canyon Fire Wildfire
Released: 1:29 hrs. ago
Community meeting:
Tonight 7:30 P.M. at CU Coors Events Center
Park in Lot 418, 440 or 436
The Four Mile Canyon Fire experienced growth on all sides of the fire yesterday due to winds and terrain. Evacuations remain in place. Fire managers understand people's need to get back to their homes as soon as it is safe, and appreciate patience until then. Evacuees will be allowed back only when it is safe. The Sheriff's Office continues to lead efforts to assess damage to homes.
A Rocky Mountain Type II Incident Management Team assumed responsibility for managing the fire last night at 6 P.M. The team is in place to assist Boulder County, Colorado State Forest Service and partner agencies. Yesterday many local firefighters were released to get much-needed rest; replacement firefighters continue to arrive. The incident management team applauds the outstanding and remarkably successful efforts fighters provided on the fire's first day. We offer our sympathy to people whose homes burned.
Structure protection remains firefighters' focus today. Hand crews have started to build line where possible.
People are asked to stay well back from areas where helicopters are dipping up water.
