The birth certificate that is on file in Hawaii

Not at all, but I'll summarize for you since you missed the point:

"It comes down to other posters forming a belief about a poster, based on their posts and then reacting to that perceived bias without considering they could actually be the opposite of what they say. Some people on here are so quick to immediately label a poster and go from there without considering the bigger picture."

You just never know when you're talking to a dog on a forum and the dog is yanking YOUR chain.

Let's summarize the last few posts. Science Chic went on at length about paid outsiders appearing on forums to make liberals look bad. She does her usual post of extreme overposting until the readers' eyes glaze. Then along comes LJ and you to bobblehead about the matter. I am incredulous that this piece of paranoia is being offered to discredit any dessenting opinion of any subject. Then you deny that Science Chic even introduced the "outsider" subject.

Liberals are starting to sound like RUBBER BRAINS.

Science Chick's post on the Craigslist story was from Canada.

Last I checked, we are in the United States.

I'm not discrediting anyone. I am making the point that posters are not always what they seem on Forums.

I am not aware of anyone trying to "discredit any dessenting (sic) opinion of any subject."

Less hyperbole, please.

You said yourself, I believe, that some posts are made just to elicit a reaction. That's a version of trolling.

I suspect a few people here are paid by libs to make conservatives look bad........

Oh wait - most conservatives DO look bad -- the last good looking one was Kemp - and he's dead.

I did not myself say anything about paid trolls being here just to discredit liberal posters, you are confusing the article with my own words. On the contrary, paid trolls can come from both main political parties to discredit the other and corporate trolls don't care about politics per se, just pushing their products/services.

Let me make this very clear: I absolutely, positively, in now way implied or stated obviously that any of the dissenting opinions occurring here on 285Bound are the result of paid trolls. I posted this in order to make everyone aware of what could occur and to encourage critical thinking analysis of what posters put up and what their agenda might be if you see a pattern; I hoped for a discussion of how we could recognize if this occurs and how to effectively deal with it. Go to the Announcement thread at the top of the forum and you will see that I state, ad nauseum to you I'm sure, that the biggest strength that I see with a forum like this is the diversity of the members and that they each bring their unique perspective and expose each other to information that they wouldn't normally seek out due to their inherent biases, making us all better informed in the process. I appreciate and encourage opposing viewpoints, and constructive, fact-backed debates.

If my posts are too long for your attention span, then I'd recommend a pot of coffee and some donuts. Caffeine and sugar aren't the best energy sources for optimum functioning of the brain, but they'll do for a short-term fix.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

The point is--- that the internet is a place where anyone can say anything and they know that they can sway opinion by using SEO, links, paying people as tactics. We all know anyone can say anything so now companies and politics are using the internet in an unsavory fashion by pretending.

On 285bound.com the trolls do their thing but this is a small part of the world. Same thing is a problem for ecommerce like Amazon. We all have seen the canned reviews that are most likely paid reviewers. Scammers pay people in india to post all over and scam forums all the same thing. And so what I got out of SC's post was to THINK FOR YOURSELVES! and don't believe everything you read.

There are lots of reasons for being in genuine on the internet. Forum trolls are usually out to upset people and get attention. Deprive them of that and they will usually go somewhere else to get the attention.

I've never heard that term before. Just what is a "rubber brain" and what does the term mean?
