Florida governor signs welfare drug-screen measure

I also work for my money and am tired of dopeheads that travel on highways that are paid for with my tax dollars. I demand that everyone that rides on those roads be tested for drugs. After all, there are those that don't pay any income tax that use those roads and they shouldn't be able to use the taxpayer funded amenity if they have the funds to buy their dope.

Another very good point!

Test everyone who dosn't pay taxes!

By the way Kate- we already do this as I'm sure you know. We are being stopped and checked without probable cause or reasonable suspision every day with roadside DUI checks. Perhaps the ACLU should spent their time on this real intrusion instead of worrying about welfare dopeheads!

Why limit it to only those that don't pay taxes? Everyone who uses any taxpayer funded amenity should be drug tested. Period.

This liberal would be in favor of testing welfare recipients for drugs. However I believe the logistics of operating this type of program would cost more than some think and probably more than the projected savings. You would need a whole new department of social workers that would need to track the offenders, do home visits to evaluate the household once aid was cut, remove the kids from the household when it is found they cannot properly care for them without the aid and then throw the offenders in a re-testing program so they can get back on the dole.

Only people that don't pay income taxes? You would be testing 50% of the country. Then what do you do throw them all in jail. Another realistic solution to a non existent problem. So much for keeping government out of our lives. How about drug testing all gun owners? Licensed drivers? Hell lets just test the world that we give foreign aid to.. Oops, then who would do the testing, ok lets be sure to test all the testers. LOL

Testing the testers. That's the start.

It doesn't need to be that complicated. You test if you apply for welfare. Random tests after that. If you test positive, you get no benefits for a year- after a year you can re-apply. Simple.

If this was a new bureaucracy created to pander to liberal voters, the conservatives would be screaming just as loud as liberals are over this new bureaucracy that panders to conservative voters. Don't tell me conservatives want to cut spending and make government smaller.....you all are just as fond of your pet programs as liberals are of theirs, and neither side has any intention of cutting spending unless it is spending that is favored by "the other side".

Excellent idea!

Man and I thought liberals had no good ideas!

Why just welfare? How about drug testing everyone and if you test positive, the Fire Department doesn't answer the call to your home when it's burning? Everyone should be tested and if they fail the drug test, no government services.

But that is not how the "system" works (or doesn't work).
