The rich are different — and not in a good way...

It isn't a surprise to me either, but probably for a different reason. It is the inevitable result of cultivating a society based on the premise that you pay taxes so that the government can collect and distribute the charity of the society. Since you pay taxes to provide charity to the poor, the money you are left with after paying your taxes is for your sole use and benefit. Perhaps the best example of that mentality is our current executive, who thinks that the hundreds of thousands of dollars he doesn't need are his to keep since he paid all his taxes to provide for charity to the poor instead of taking those hundreds of thousands of dollars and establishing a scholarship fund for underprivileged youths to attend the same private schools his own children do, or a college scholarship fund for an inner city high school. In the Obama world, the government hands out grants for that purpose rather than the successful individual being responsible for getting their hands dirty providing charity themselves.

What exactly IS a communist deadbeat loser......the guy down the street who lost his job? the lady down the street who is losing her home? The couple who had such high medical bills they had to claim bankruptcy?

Selfish relates to how much you are willing to care about your fellow citizens, do you vote to take away medicare, medicaid, SS, welfare, health care....or do you look for ways to protect those programs and cut spending elsewhere and raise revenue where ever you can. It isn't if you are rich or poor, it's where your priorities lie. I know a lot of unselfish people, both rich and poor, ditto the selfish. What I am seeing is those who want to keep everything they have, and don't care what happens to anyone else, are usually from the GOP......just MHO.

You are rich. You have more than somebody does- and "those people" will call you greedy and want to take it away from you.

Why would I have worked all my life to have just that, if I didn't admire that life? You make no sense Bear. I don't want to take it all away......I do feel a certain responsibility to give back to the country that has given me so much. Is that "communism"? You do make the choice, indirectly, by voting your choice into office......that's how we do it in this country.....last I looked America is not considered a communist country, even when Democrats are in power.

You throw the term "communist" around, and yet you obviously are using it as a weapon not as a description. Nothing I have posted, or believe in, is the least bit communistic....nor is the Democratic platform, you think just by using the word, that will make it true. I DO continue to work harder to have more...And if that puts me in a bracket where I might have to pay a little more, unlike the sociopathic slugs who say, "then they'll 'work less'", I'll just continue to work harder.
