I get really upset with the 9/11 stuff. I will be glad when it is over. Football that day, I hope there is not a problem with security.

There's remembering, and then there's glorifcation of it. The glorification part has gotten out of hand, truly.

Honor those who did their job, mourn those who died, but it is NOTHING to "celebrate". I have ever gotten "celebrating" the death of anyone, and If I'm reading VL right, its this part that bothers him.

I know it bothers the hell out of me, so I'm going to be at work, doing a haunt build, working likely 10 hours just like today, avoiding a celebration of a tragedy.

We will be bowing our heads in rememberance of lives lost and ending our service in celebration of the continuance of life, love and liberty. We are blessed to live in this great nation and especially in this most beautiful part of it.

:yeahthat:

It is a remembrance more than anything for me. It is a reminder of the liberty and freedom we have and so many take for granted. It is a remembrance of and to honor those who gave their lives so we can continue to enjoy the freedoms we have. Perhaps the fact I so often travel to parts of the world where freedoms we take for granted are suspended or denied that I am particularly grateful for what we have. It costs nothing to honor those who continue to fight for us, for the families who lost loved ones, or perhaps those of us who actually lost friends that day. It is not different in many ways as going to the grave of your parents in remembrance of the gift of life they gave us. I can and will take the time to think and thank those who continue to support us in a myriad of ways. Beyond that, the political posturing etc. is lost on me. I despise others using an event for their political gain.

I agree. To me, the kind of "tributes" that have been playing out on, TV, etc. make about as much sense as an over-the-top celebration of the anniversary of the date you learned your parent was diagnosed with a fatal cancer.

It's approriate to respectfully reflect, but this is turning into a circus. What's worse, it seems to have an agenda to drum up the same kind of jingoistic fervor that propelled us blindly into Iraq.

There are some very moving videos on YouTube of the buildings being hit and falling. To find them you have to wade through quite a few videos which (IMO) are not appropriate for public view and there is also a lot of "truther" thrash.

The following shows reactions of local residents.

I'm not questioning the need to look back and reflect on this awful event, but I am questioning the idea that we have to actually RELIVE it. All of us saw those towers come down approximately 10,000 times on TV in the days following 9/11, do we really need to see it again another 10,000 times? For what purpose?

It is the difference between knowing and understanding.

So you think that watching the towers come down over and over will somehow make us understand it?
