Don't know if I can stomach all the 9/11 tributes

I happened to be in Washington D.C. on military business on 9/11 so I guess I will always have an indelible memory of all that transpired that day and the confusion that ensued while our Nation figured out what the heck was going on. I have been in combat in foreign lands...but there was something particularly troubling about an attack on our homeland. We should never forget what happened and we should continue to take measures to protect our home

One thing I'm certain of......it was a terrible day and an absolutely senseless loss of innocent lives.

There has been a week-long, nearly 24 hour a day orgy of 9/11 documentaries on TV this week. I doubt the stations would be showing these if people were not watching. If that's not obsessive, I don't know what is.

If you want to believe it is "hyperbole" or just because I am "critical of others", believe what you want, the evidence shows that there is at the very least the obsessive airing of these images.

I'm not sure of the set up some of you other folks have on your televisions and radios....but mine have channels and switches on them. If I don't like what they are doing or talking about on a particular channel I have three options.

Option 1-grin and bear it
Option 2-change the channel
Option 3-shut it off

Since I don't believe the world revolves around me I realize that it's unreasonable for me to think that my will alone can make the producers of that station change the content of their show...so usually I just use the channel selector or switch. You would be amazed with the results. It's very empowering actually. If you don't like what they are saying...you can just shut it off. It's remarkable really. Seriously...you should try it sometime.

Otherwise, I'm okay with other people processing this tragedy in whatever way helps them cope. I will process it in my own way.

I have seen no such "whip up anti-Muslim hysteria". I believe that you are viewing things through your own tinted gogles of political bias.

These comments have nothing to do with the discussion. NO ONE has complained they were forced to watch this stuff, we are simply discussing the implications of it being broadcast 24/7.

Or how about simply the characterization of the event as the clash of a "primitive" culture with our culture?

Help me out here. You are saying my comment's have nothing to do with a discussion entitled, "Don't know if I can stomach all the 9/11 tributes"?

I can see that the images are causing a lot of mental anguish and sadness for you, VL and LJ. I was simply suggesting that you can simply turn your eyes away from those images. Otherwise, it's clear to me that MANY, MANY Americans feel the tributes are appropriate and are watching them just as we all watched the television so closely ten years ago.

Really?

AspenValley said: "It's appropriate to respectfully reflect, but this is turning into a circus. What's worse, it seems to have an agenda to drum up the same kind of jingoistic fervor that propelled us blindly into Iraq."

And I said: :yeahthat:

Tell me again how you get: "causing a lot of mental anguish and sadness for you" from that?

Exaggerate much?
