With the nation’s Latino population booming and now the country’s largest minority group, the Obama administration’s top Hispanic official is concerned that the federal government is not giving enough attention to Hispanic history and culture.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar in the past year has pushed the National Park Service to identify more sites or properties related to the histories of women and minorities that could be added to the National Register of Historic Places or be preserved as national parks or historic landmarks.
“Less than 3 percent of all the national landmarks that we have — the highest designation you can receive as a historic landmark — are designated for women, Latinos, African Americans or other members of minority groups,” Salazar said in a meeting with reporters last week. “That tells you that the score is not even.”
Note to my detractors: This isn't about me so please try to refrain from jumping on me and just discuss the story on its merits, OK??? Let's see if you can do it just this once.
I'm not sure. It's just a wild guess but I think it involves keeping score.
National Parks and National Forests are socialistic enterprises anyway. We pay taxes so that anyone can use them. They are shared among all of us. Illegal aliens are even using them to grow pot.
Why should my taxes go to that or to provide a shooting area in the national forest for people I don't even know who may be unemployed and on welfare or here illegally?
We should sell the national parks and forests to the highest bidders.
OK, confused here a bit. Isn't this still AMERICA? And aren't women, Latino's (who are here legally) and african Americans, who live in America, all AMERICAN'S? SO aren't ALL historic AMERICAN landmarks for EVERYONE who is an American? What does the color of skin or sex have to do with anything? Do we need to just randomly make more landmarks just because of the color of a person's skin? People like Salazar are who keep racism alive and try to keep this nation divided into races instead of making everyone feel like EQUAL AMERICANS!

And come on. We have Cinco de Mayo (that wonderful racist holiday). A special day just for Latinos (the population that makes up the most gangs in Denver too. A fact, not racism) to drive up and down Federal causing havoc, shooting guns and celebrating the Mexican Flag and spitting on American flags. And the day an Illegal immigrant shot and killed my friend Police Officer Donnie Young outside a Mexican nightclub 6 years ago. I forgot, which holiday do we have that is specifically for WHITE Americans where we act like that? Or don't white Americans use race for holidays?
