This song is as true today as it was back in 1946 when it was written. There was a time inbetween those years when the hard workin man/woman could get fair compensation for the work they did, not so much anymore.

And therein lies the problem. There is a perception of overinflated value of the work that one does. How much talent and training doe it take to flip a hamburger, or stick a basket of pre cut fires into the oil and then pull it out when the timer goes off? Not much. I've been there and done more. I cut the fries and did not have a timer to tell me when to take them out. I got a few bucks an hour for that and in my estimation it's not worth a whole lot more today. I don't know what dollars back in 1964-66 would equate with today, but it seems that everyone from the person digging a ditch to Mr. gifted athlete thinks they deserve a whole lot more than they are getting. It's that whole feeling of being entitled to be more than you can afford to be or have worked to become. You may be a gifted athlete and be compensated generously for your talent, but when they are forced back into the real world, they are no better than the person next to them and perhaps less so in any given task.

What I believe is few today or even the past two generations have an inkling of what it takes to move oneself off the poverty level to the next. There is no willingness to work. VL twin Towermonkey, thinks I'm someone's puppet. He has no clue. I've gained my wisdom through the school of hard knocks. No one handed anything to me. I had support along the way, but I am self made and proud of it. It took sacrifices, dedication, talent, and a strong work ethic. I was taught, if you want something work for it. That still remains as true today as it was back in the 1940's or 60's. The difference is yesteryears and today's mindset. If you want to see that mindset, look at the legal Vietnamese, Italian, Irish, German, Chinese, etc. immigrants. Or, you can look no further than ScienceChick. She is constantly working to make things happen. That, not going to work every day is the kind of effort it takes to move upward. Routine will not do it. That is what most don't understand or want to do, but they all want to have it. So let's clarify my perspective. I'm not saying that the 99% is lazy (though a good portion are), what I am saying is they have lost sight of those things needed to make your life or those of your children better. There is no sugar coating it.

The pensions that were once a "fringe benefit" disappeared with the increased burden levied through payroll taxes - pensions that once made reliance on government less necessary I might add. We lost our health insurance when we changed or lost our jobs because the general government decided it would be better to give tax incentives to companies rather than citizens. The general government has been dangling carrots out in front of the private industries for going on 100 years now in order to get them to do the bidding of the general government and help it gain and keep power it was never intended to have. Every single day the general government spends far beyond what it has any hope of realizing in revenues. The general government has driven us $15 Trillion into debt, with another $110 Trillion in unfunded liabilities........it is indeed the company store that owns the soul of the citizens of the States in today's world. There exists no possibility, regardless of how many tonnes we move, that we will do anything other than grow another day older and deeper in debt thanks to the general government and its gluttonous, and insatiable, hunger for power.

Well, at least we've moved from "federated government" to: "general government"... Is that November's "New Words of the Day" from the Sovereign Citizen newsletter? The usual application of the "standard theory" grows tiresome.

Here...I'll make your eyes glaze over:

general government
general government
general government
general government
general government
general government

There... Feel better?

Our nation is crumbling from within not because our politicians are a total failure, but because the 99% has come to the conclusion they are entitled, the feeling that they are owed something without necessarily putting in effort to attain it. This festering mass of humanity readily blames everyone else for his or her personal failures. They don’t just feel entitled to, but demand a better way of life than they can actually manage, much less achieve. They believe entitled to be taken care of at the expense of others. They believe justified to high salaries for jobs that others will gladly do for far less and then blame corporate greed for their plight. They feel entitled to job breaks even when no work has been done. Our unionized labor forces feels workers are entitled to more vacation time though no overtime is ever put in. They feel entitled to a college degree even if they cannot write a grammatically correct sentence. Students feel entitled to an “A” even though they don’t study for the course. Our super well paid athletes feel entitled to even greater compensation even when warming the bench. We feel entitled to freedom while failing to understand or willing to support its cost. We feel entitled to free healthcare without the need to make our own contributions.

It took me a while to pick my jaw up off the ground after that pompous screed. Utterly clueless...

Why don't you enlighten us who are so clueless.

While I appreciate your offer of carnal relations at the lowest level, I am compelled to reject your offer. Clearly we don't agree on many issues and that is not likely to change. Perhaps you will find more productive results by fornicating with yourself (go F*CK yourself for those reading from Rio Linda). Best wishes from the heart of my bottom, "hope and change", and good luck with that.

Sorry, Otis, I didn't use the quote button and missed that you had responded in between. I was responding to the nazi. I usually see actual thought behind your posts.

Divided we shall fall.

Right... our politicians are certainly not a total failure. Our politicians on both sides of the aisle are a complete success. They have successfully robbed us blind, ingratiated themselves with power and money and have established a political class that is in no way working for any of us. The real 1% are the politicians, all politicians, federal, state and local and their special interest and corporate cronies. The real 99% are the rest of us. The Occupy Movement should shut down the silly camps all over the country and converge on Washington. That's what should be occupied... Washington DC. Go to the source.

But that won't happen because we are divided and we shall waste our time and chase partisan phantoms as we work as deflectors for the political class, taking focus off the real problems.

I belive everyone thinks they are entitled, from people demanding a living wage, from corporations demanding tax subsidies to move jobs from one town to another, from the rich writing themselves more loopholes to Fannie & Freddie exec earning millions driving their companies into the ditch.
And because of all of this, the Feds are spending 66% more than they are taking in.

This. To highlight anyone group based on partisanship is foolish and destructive. It is a mistake to seperate ourselves from the government. WE are the government. If our government is inefficient, corrupt or intrusive it is because we voted them there. Take responsibility and stop whining about OWS or the TEA party. At least they got off their dead asses to protest the issues rampant in society. I'm sick of all the divisive bullsh*t. We are all Americans. A house divided against itself cannot stand. If you are one of those who stand on one side of the partisan divide curling your lip at the other side then YOU are one of the architects of our destruction. Take responsibility dammit.
