Joe Walsh: Veterans In Occupy Movement 'Don't Understand This Country'

Walsh, a Tea Party favorite who apologized last week after screaming at a constituent during a similar event, was reacting to constituent criticism of the Occupy movement when he let them know how he felt about it.

"[Occupy is] an anti-American, well-funded left wing effort," Walsh told the crowd, to a mix of applause and boos. He also said the movement was created to "rile up Obama's left base."

When one constituent stood up and pointed out that veterans have participated in the Occupy movement, Walsh brushed it off.

"I don't know how many veterans are part of the Occupy protest," he said. "I can't imagine it's many. But anyone who would advocate socialist solutions to certain problems in this country ... they don't understand this country."

OWS needs to clarify their goals, and remove the extremes from their messages.
They want less corporate influence in politics - I can agree with that.
They feel that the inherent flaw in capitalism (the accumulation of wealth and power to a few) is not being addressed - I can agree with that too, but not to their solution.

They feel that people should have a living wage jsut for being citizens - nope.
They feel we should go full blown socialist - nope.
They think their protest is more important than other people's lives so they are justified in blocking public rights of way - nope.

So, I agree with Walsh- those that are calling for a pure socialist solution don't understand that our system is based on capitalism. Changing to socialism removes incentive and dooms us to a medocre future at best.

But LJ thinks they should continue pushing their socialist message and goals of communist style wealth redistribution. The more extreme their message, the more she likes them.

But you got to use "socialist" in a sentence... rofllol  ..even though what they are asking for, and protesting against has nothing to do with socialism.

OWS in a nutshell:

#ows is fighting back against the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations.

I don't see "turn the country socialist" in there anywhere. There are five companies controlling all of the media that most of you watch. You see what they want you to see.

'They' who? That's part of the problem - there's no cohesive 'they' to OWS.

So tell me, LJ... if 'they' are against capitalism, what are 'they' for?

5 companies controlling all the media you watch? And one is moderate right, and four are moderate left. Think MSNBC is being muffled by GE? If it is, Fox will surely expose any GE corporate cronyism.
Personally I think you have more access to different news viewpoints than ever before. Think "Democracy Now" could have existed 20 years ago?

And maybe Joe is right and OWS stands for "Obama's Witless Stooges". some of them just happen to be veterans.

Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch's News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom (formerly CBS), and now Comcast, so I guess there are six. I believe that these companies use the wedge of right vs. left to keep our attention turned from what is really going on. Multi-billion dollar giveaways to banks go all but unreported while Senator Joe Blow - D says something that gets all of the - R's upset and that gets coverage for days. Yes, Democracy Now is out there, but it is far from mainstream and has about 14 people that watch it.

Mult-million dollar bank giveaways is all but un-reported? Must not be watching the news I do. Fox loves showing the corporate cronyism of Wall Street and bank bailouts.
