U.S. Adds 120,000 New Jobs In November As Jobless Rate Falls To 8.6 Percent

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. unemployment rate fell last month to its lowest level in more than two and a half years, as employers stepped up hiring in response to the slowly improving economy.

The Labor Department said Friday that the unemployment rate dropped sharply to 8.6 percent last month, down from 9 percent in October. The rate hasn't been that low since March 2009, during the depths of the recession.

Still, 13.3 million Americans remain unemployed. And a key reason the unemployment rate fell so much was because roughly 315,000 people had given up looking for work and were no longer counted as unemployed.

Employers added 120,000 jobs last month. And the previous two months were revised up to show that 72,000 more jobs added – the fourth straight month the government revised prior months higher.

Private employers added a net gain of 140,000 jobs last month. Governments, meanwhile, shed another 20,000 jobs, mostly at the local and state level. Governments at all levels have shed almost a half-million jobs in the past year.

Looks like the new Republican Congress is creating jobs after all! Obama and the Dems lost jobs when they controlled the Senate and the House.

Since the GOP has yet to pass ANYTHING related to jobs, (contenting itself with renaming Post Offices, and anti-abortion garbage), I'd love to see them try to take credit for ANYTHING job-related.

They worked a compromise with Obama to keep the goverment going and start employers hiring. More than Pelosi & Reid accomplished.

Please use history as your guide instead of the current Dem/Obama campaign talking point of a "Do nothing Congress". They passed a budget bill and Harry Reid won't let it even be voted on.

Those Freshman TEA Party Republicans creating jobs while Obama continues to campaign at clean energy facilities kept alive by taxpayer dollars.

While both parties work together to find common ground here, Speaker Boehner has called on President Obama to “dislodge” the more than 20 bipartisan jobs bills piling up in the Democratic-controlled Senate by calling for an immediate vote. Empower Small Business Owners
Small business owners are being bogged down by burdensome regulations from Washington that prevent job creation and hinder economic growth. We must remove onerous regulations that are redundant, harm small businesses, and impede private sector investment and job creation.

Forgot to mention 315,000 more people gave up looking for a job.

I'm always skeptical of "unemployment" figures. They don't include folks who have fallen off the roles, or given up trying to find a job, or are working part-time but really want/need a full-time job.

If the Obama administration wants to take direct credit for any decrease in the unemployment rate, then the government needs to recognize that this was due to bipartisan efforts in the house.
