One of my children got in $52,000 in credit card debt.

She broke the news last summer.. I was pissed- I told her to file Bankrauptsy but that was impossible because she owns a $50,000 Lexus and a luxury Condo. Tried to put that stuff in my name but the lawyer said they'd find out so I told her to just stop paying..She did as I told her then after a year or so she got served with summons to court..I did'nt want judgments to go against her and liens put on the condo so I contacted the 15 different debt collection agencies and started negotiatiing. I contacted AMEX a day before the court date and made and offer of 30%..They told me they'd take it as settlement in full..I told them to send me the paperwork, they told me not to go to court the next day. We went anyway and when AMEX did'nt show up the case was dismissed..Cha-Ching..I settled with the other 14 collectors for between 10 and 15 cents on the dollar..I just now settled with the last one..A $3400 Macy's bill for $560.

So if your in trouble, don't worry about. Just stop paying..after 6 months the balance stops growing, and after a little more than a year they'll take whatever you are willing to pay them..I settled an $8800 debt for $1200, and a $13,000 debt for $3100 and a $1800 Neman Marcus bill for $150. Now my daughters debt free and livin large again..And I got her a secured credit card from my bank to use when she travels..

and P.S..Every debt collector hung up on me at least 3 times, with a "we will see you in court then" comment..Its a bluff, don't worry-they'll call back. I wish I woulda recorded one of the calls..Halarious..Kohls is the worst btw..

The rest of us get to pay more for the goods and services from places like AmEx and Macy's because, like the OWS crowd, your daughter got the personal benefit, privatized the gains if you will, and then decided to socialize the cost. Hey... why the heck should VL care about what you have to pay or don't have to pay for goods and services. You totally miss the point (like you usually do). Vl's daughter beat the system. It wasn't her fault that all those companies offered her all those accounts and probably did a lousy job of figuring out if she was credit worthy. That's Amex's fault, not VL or his daughter. And if those bill collectors didn't get so nasty and hang up on a good citizen like VL, then maybe he would have arranged to pay them what was owed. But if they are going to treat him that way, then he owes them nothing. And this has nothing to do with the OWS crowd. The OWS crowd are not paying for anything, they are taking what they want. They don't have bills or credit cards or jobs or any credit stuff to worry about, their whole purpose is to OCCUPY something, not purchase it or obtain it legally. So that's simply a straw man (which is PrintSmith's favorite cheap debating trick). And you have a lot of nerve questioning his parenting skills. Evidently he's a rather good papa if he was capable of leading by example, showing his daughter just how the American Dream works and by all standards of his commentary above, she did her father proud.

It was really funny..Whenever a collector would call back, id say stuff like i'm busy getting chemotherapy, or i'm at my wifes funeral, and they'd say "oh my, i'm sorry"..And I'd say "are you sorry enough to forgive the debt?" and when they told me no in a nice round about way i'd just hang up on them.

You know what I would tell them. I used the money to purchase dirt for my floor. Yea, I tell them that I belong to a religion that requires me to walk barefooted on dirt all the time, and I was afraid that because I hardwood floors I would go to hell or something. So I used the credit cards to purchase dirt which I spread all around my house and on the floor of my car. I start crying a bit and I did the whole thing with an East-Indian accent. Gets them every time.
