Who other than the US or Israel would be willing to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon?

All of Europe and believe it or not, most of the Middle East... Nobody really likes or trusts Iran. And of course since they have shown they would block the precious from coming out, the rest of the world. too. (the precious of course is oil)

Well I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think there is any country that would be willing to strike Iran for any reason other than self defense...and if they do, I'm sure we would be asked to lead the charge as usual.
Iran wil get nukes unless Israel or the US steps in...jmo

In the end, the US and free world will look the other way and Israel will do the "dirty work". Many will then condemn the Israelis publicly for doing such a "brazen" and "terrible" thing, but behind close doors we will all be thanking the Israelis for having the balls to do something. To me sometimes a song's hidden meaning says it all:

Dirty Work (Steely Dan)

Times are hard
You're afraid to pay the fee
So you find yourself somebody
Who can do the job for free
When you need a bit of lovin'
Cause your man is out of town
That's the time you get me runnin'
And you know I'll be around

CHORUS:
I'm a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah
I don't wanna do your dirty work
No more
I'm a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah

Light the candle
Put the lock upon the door
You have sent the maid home early
Like a thousand times before
Like the castle in its corner
In a medieval game
I foresee terrible trouble
And I stay here just the same

I am familiar with Gulf of Oman, the Arabian (Persian) Gulf, The Arabian Sea, and the Straits of Hormuz.

Where's the Gulf of Hormuz?

I think you're being generous.

And how would a vital typo like that get by any credible journalist/expert????
(and what credible submariner would disclose operational details?)

I'd add - there's nothing new about SEALS or subs (USS Georgia, for example) having a presence in the Gulf.

My opinion
I think it's just a self-aggrandizing commentator.
(or maybe a military-generated press release trying to send a message/warning to Iran)

I concur with the first. If the latter, I would expect it would have had more credibility.

We have guys that do it for a living.

Knowing what I do about subs, I know SSN'S draft is less than that of SSBN'S. The straits of Hormuz, has strict guidance for ships entering and exiting the Gulf. Almost like a interstate with a huge median. To avoid going aground etc, the lanes (incoming and outgoing) are such that not sure if an SSBN could transit submerged.

We would gain nothing by one even going up in the Gulf.

So Iran, in an attempt to try to show how big and tough (not) they are, adds a new threat to the already sheet of threats already made. Now they are threatening the US NAVY (which means a threat against the United States). The newest threat now is that if we move the Stennis back into the Gulf, (international waters) they will take action against it. If they are that stupid, then life as they know it will change even more. Thier money has lost as much as 40% against the dollar, their econmony is in a somewhat down spiral with prices jumping on goods. Acme head job is going to end up signing his own death papers if he does this. I am actually beginning to wonder if he is actually losing control over the military and other folks.
