For Iranians Waylaid by Pirates, U.S. to the Rescue

I think this would be the "carrot" part of the carrot and stick approach to diplomacy. Let's see how quickly the public discussion around this devolves into "Us vs Them" caricatures and jingoism.

I look at this as no more than a humanatarian mission, nothing more. We would have done the same had it been any country's crew.

The Iranians would have to be absolutely out of their minds to try and close the Strait. It would be suicide for the current regime there. Perhaps they are banking on an illusion that the current Administration would NEVER start a "war for oil." The irony would be waaaaaay too rich. You can't make this stuff up. rofllol

The fact of the matter is, strategic access to oil IS a good reason to go to war. It IS a critical national interest until we find alternative fuels.

The discussion ought to be how you cut the DOD budget when you are in the middle of a shooting war with the Iranians?
