Iran warns of closing strategic Hormuz oil route

Let's see ---- USS Stennis vs. Iran
my money's on the Stennis

(the UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi would all agree)

Humorous passage in today's Christian Science Monitor:

The 5th Fleet, based out of Bahrain, exists to keep the oil lanes through the Strait open and oil pumping to the world's economies. Being told they can't go somewhere is an invitation for the naval equivalent of "oh, yeah?"

Like I said - my bet (not boastful - I'm not a fan of warfare) - would be on the Stennis.

Got my vote, I retired while serving on the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON CVN 73, this was my fifth carrier. I would do the exact same. The carrier along with its battle group, lot of heat lot sand makes a great liberty port

Um, I'll bite. What does that mean.

I can think of more than a few great liberty ports that are orders of magnitude, no that are not even in the same universe as steel beach off the coast of some desert.

I MUST be misunderstanding you.

Better than a day on duty:

Not nearly as much fun as 72 hours shore leave just about any place else in the world.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

That's a fact Jack. Even 48, 24 or heaven forbid 12. I had a little indiscretion when I was an E-5 and caught some cinderella liberty. Still way better than steel beach.

Upon further review, I will take another stab at this. I am confident you are saying if it came down to a US CBG against Iran you will take the CBG. As for the rest it seems that you are saying Iran would be a good liberty port after we turned it into an ocean of radioactive glass.

You got it. I know what the carriers have down in the hole. The safety systems were my gear. Its a saying we have on carriers. The firepower of a CBG is second to none.

Had those, the 3% beer was just not the same. Sold my tickets for a pretty good price. Missed the second one by 6 days. We pulled into Aussie land. Lot better than the 3%. 114 days underway then Austrialia. Nothing better. I was still single then.
