German driving tests are more demanding than most US states, but that doesn't prove they are brighter. And I would imagine the death rate would balance out, better drivers versus higher speeds.

BTW in CA trucks 55 mph, no radar on freeways and no high speed chases. Obviously they are doing something correctly - oh, fifth largest economy in the world. I do love CA and CO......to stop that stuff.

The higher speeds you go the more likley you are to die in a crash, no matter how much better your training and skills.

Deaths per mile have rapidly decreased in the US, and some point to tougher drunk driving laws, but another reason speculated is that traffic has increased to the point that people can't drive as fast as they used to.

Last night I was watching a couple bored police by the side of the road, their speed trap didn't work out like they thought since the road was packed and people were moving below the posted speed limit.
