You sat back and accepted $4-$5 gas in 2008... ("It wasn't Bush's fault...")
rofllol rofllol Yes, the elections turned out so will in 08 for the right didn't it. Please keep your head buried in the sand.
I am curious as to how many posters would rather have cheap gas but be beholden to and enrich foreign nations, or more expensive gas but have energy independence.

But those aren't the options in front of us. The Obama option is more expensive, foreign oil from unstable sources & very expensive alternative energy sources. The Republican option is cheaper oil from stable countries like the US and Canada and economically competitive alternative energy sources, combined with unstable foreign oil sources.

Like I said before, its probably temporary until the OK-TX pipeline reverses direction in June. Enjoy it while it lasts.
"Right now, the United States has a big glut of crude oil sitting in the middle of the country, and no easy way to move it. The combination of surging production from Canada's tar sands and North Dakota's Bakken region has overwhelmed the existing pipelines to the Gulf of Mexico..
That good fortune might soon be coming to an end, however. Owners of the Seaway pipeline are planning to reverse it's flow in June, which will allow it to begin shipping 150,000 barrels of oil a day from Cushing Oklahoma, where most of that Canadian and North Dakotan crude is currently sitting, to the gulf."

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.
Over the past two years, the U.S. has started producing so much oil that existing pipelines have been unable to move it to refineries. That has led to a glut of oil in the center of the country, keeping the price of American crude far below that of petroleum traded overseas.
What? The U.S. is producing so much oil the existing pipelines have been unable to move it to refineries??? So how come gas is so expensive where the refineries are? The gas is already high where the Cushing, Oklahoma pipleline starts and we're nowhere near it but look at what Colorado and Wyoming are paying, compared to the rest of the country:
I've seen mixed opinions on this, over the short term future traders seem to affect oil prices. I'd rather see margins increased, not sure if position limits will work. The could just move money offshore to other trading markets.

I am really not clear what is even being discussed here and why.
The price of gas is $4. It will never be $2.50 again, but if it was it would only save $600 a year on a car that drives 12k and gets 30mpg. That is $2 a day and most families would not need to drive more than 12k a year anyway, beyond that it is fluff and pleasure riding.
People around here post that they don't even know people that are unemployed.
An additional $600 a year or more realistically a few hundred due to potential differences in a market of companies (not nations) is nothing. How much is a simple pickup truck vs. 10 years ago.
This pales in comparison to the upcoming health insurance costs, the shifts in SS taxes or even potential shifts in local sales taxes, school taxes and new building taxes...and those are all things you have influence on!
Gas is going up, up, up...the thing to talk about is how you are going to live your life when it is $10 or $20 or $60/gal and you still only make $40k or nothing. It would be better to talk about how a gallon of gas will cost as much as a month of cable, and you only get permission to buy 10 gallons a month anyway.
I say be happy the people that have gas are willing to sell it at all. I say this because I only have about 23 gallons in my possession right now but I have plans to use 10,000's. I can't pick the price of things I don't own, I can only choose to buy it. All the oil will get pumped, we don't really loose by waiting a couple years. The company that owns the oil will make more money on it in the long run as in the future extraction technology will be better and prices will be higher. Pretty good chances that the oil is not being extracted due to market conditions and that you are being duped into thinking that you all powerful obama is closing the valve, youve been duped....but don't worry, Romney will make it all better......... I mean keep it all the same, but the "repubs" will love it, becuase it will be the same crap, but it will have their label now, and that's all it takes.
This is not an Obama endorsement, this an endorsement for not asking the govt to influence prices...in either direction. I would also figure that since it is repubs around here that argue that the govt must get into my home to inspect it for all (building and zoning inspections) and even wanted more new inspections in local homes to look for pot safety with no warrant, surely the same people would argue that the govt should have some oversight of pipelines that cross 10,000's of people's properties. and this is not an enorsement for stopping any pipelines, just seeing some hypocrite conflicts.
It's all part of the "next talking point." The economy is coming back, so they've pretty much lost that one; the usual "weak on defense" talking point has been blown to smithereens; the usual social wedge issues, i.e., marriage equality, abortion (and now, stupidly, contraception) is costing them voters right and left...
I HAVE IT!...Let's bitch about gas prices! (Which they totally ignored in 2008 when they got above $4 during Bush's term)...
