Chu Flip Flops on Gas Prices

Name the single commodity that can drive the cost of almost everything up. I'll save you a few brain cells, it's energy.

Want to plant some crops? You will need fuel. Want to manage and harvest those crops? You will need fuel. Need to get those crops to market? You will need fuel. Buying crops from the market for distribution to retail stores? You will need fuel. Need consumers to come to your store so you don't go bankrupt while the crops rot in your store? Consumers need fuel to get to and from your store and now because of higher energy prices they will spend less and less of their income in your store so they can go to work.

Enjoy living indoors and want to buy a new house? Guess what? The cost of a house went up because the cost of bringing the building materials to the construction site went up BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED COST OF ENERGY. Like basking in 68F heat during a cold winter storm? Now it will cost you more to keep the heat up when it's cold BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED COST OF ENERGY. Like taking a long hot shower? Now you can't do that as often BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED COST OF ENERGY.

What happens when energy costs increase to the point that the cost of everything finally surpasses what Joe six pack earns on a monthly basis? Can the Gubment continue to pay out welfare and operate when the cost of energy has gone through the roof? Should citizens just stop paying their bills and wait for the Gubment to send them a check that won't cover the cost of living to begin with?

IMHO America needs an energy policy that promotes domestic production and consumption of energy at prices that agree with costs the mean of the population can afford.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Surely you aren't implying that the current administration would press their own Secretary of Energy to make a public statement solely for the sake of getting re-elected. That seems unethical to me... Of course the sheepeople that put Barry in office will buy into this ploy just like they bought all of that "Hope and Change" nonsense back in 2008.

Kinda like so many conservatives are buying into Romney's new conservative credentials. Sheesh...this is what politics is all about during elections
This isn't a you do it too excuse....this is an everyone does it and always will.

Well.. of course it's a "you too" excuse since the topic of this thread was Chu's reversal of his former statement. The thread is not about Romney, it's not about the general topic of political pandering at the time of elections, it is about CHU. Your mentioning that your statement is not a "you too" statement is ludicrous all it's meaning. You couldn't even attempt to talk about Chu, you never even mention him in your response. Your whole comment is "you too." We're not stupid Archer. Your partisan panties are showing again.

Do you and wonder mutt live in a cave. Everyone knows that smart well spoken democrats like the President and the Nobel prize wining sec of energy Chew can not effect energy prices.

It is only ignorant knuckle dragging repubs like Bush, Cheney and Halliburton that can do that.

You are right Neptune, we all ought to bow down to Obama the Emperor and endure the idea that there will be the many and the few in our society. Mao and Stalin provided perfect models for the distribution of wealth so we all have that to look forward to when Barry gets boosted back into office by those who lack the intelligence to recognize reality and truth.

How about taking the crew that will be otherwise dispersed when the big E retires (God rest her keel into an unjust destruction as a ship that has served it's useful life) and putting them to work on the keystone pipeline instead? Some skill and knowledge transfer would be needed in key positions however, I challenge anyone to name a job that crew is not only professionally prepared to do and not only meet the minimum requirements, but to do it and do it in an exceptional manner.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

And you must have a Masters degree from Fischer-Price in childrens toys and economics. Get over yourself and admit that simple math applies to the increase in the of the of energy.

I guess the gin kicked in while he was typing that. I couldn't figure out what he meant either.

The nerve of them flip-flopping like that.

Do you honestly think the man doesn't believe Americans should be paying more for carbon based energy? Even Obama has said gas prices should be higher, but he wanted them to increase gradually.

They should be higher. Our subsidized fuel is the lowest in the world. We're pansies when it comes to gas prices.

Perhaps it is our recognition that inexpensive energy is one of, if not the, most important component of the economic engine? Perhaps it is precisely the low cost of energy which allowed this nation to rise above all others? Given Obama's belief that no nation should have that stature, perhaps he, and his energy secretary, understand this fundamental reality as well and it is for this reason that both seek higher energy costs in an effort to bring this union back to the pack?
