Incidentally, Gauchat documents that "conservatives" with higher levels of education are more distrustful of science. Why? That's simple --- they can see how science is politicized (the article, by the way - is titled, "Politicization of science in the Public Sphere..." The study author attributes the drop in trust to the character of the conservative movement, as well as the character of "science." (Chris Mooney, A LIBERAL who has written about this topic at length has a similar take on the topic)
