And he is - when he is on duty as an officer of the Marine Corps (and no, it's not pronounced corpse). As a reserve officer, he is only on duty when he is in active service. The whole article must be satisfied Dog, not just portions of the article selectively removed from their context for partisan political purposes.
I don't think he's under the military code, but his statement is ignorant and wrong. Glad he's not my congressman, because he's an shining example of the wrongness of super biased politicians.

Personally, I think what he said was wrong. Doesn't matter if he was in uniform or out; or he is active duty or reservist or guard or retired...I was taught to never denigrate the sitting President in public...it makes the rest of the military look bad to our enemies and our foreign allies.

You're evolving!
When I am wrong, I freely admit it. Luckily that seldom happens.

Then using your logic, no one should ever state an opinion on the president. Can't talk about his record, his ability to govern, his failures... no negative opinions, questions brought up in a debate, concerns passed on to him from Congress or the House... nothing. Right... and who decides what is denigrating and what it not?
We still have enough freedom of speech to say what we want about the president short of calling for harming him.

Not sure what branch of the DoD he served in? Your allegation seems specious at best. Had he been representing the Marine Corps when he made the remark then yes he would have to answer if charges were brought against him. The remark on its own wasn't particularly potent, at best he could be charged with making disrespectful remarks about the Commander in Chief. Of course that all assumes that he was representing the DoD when the remark was made.
Just like every other politician is doing right now, Coffman is out giving speeches, shaking hands, kissing babies, and making promises to special interest groups (that he might or might not be able to keep). He's representing himself as a legislator not as a member of the DoD.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Toad, he does not have to be representing the DOD, simply being on active duty is sufficient to violate the military code. I freely admit my mistake in believing that he was still on active duty. It has been made clear to me by the posters here that he is no longer on active duty, that he does not have to uphold the honor of his military service and commission, and may merely continue to act as a sleaze ball politician.
