He got away with it, he got his sound bite and his name out there while he's campaigning and coughed up a BS apology so he can say later that he never apologized. He didn't offer up solutions, he just took an opportunity to get in a dig at the President. The only thing being a Marine has to do with it is that their proud name is being muddied by this politician who said something to pander to his base, in other words, politics.

I honor his service, but I have little respect for his behavior.

SS I would be willing to bet not awhole lot of folks out there even know which service he was in, and I will promise you he is only stating what a lot of the military is thinking but will not say. I even make sure my son does not say anything against the President. He is active duty and I remind him all the time of the UCMJ. I am retired though, as for if or if not an American for me no longer an issue, but what I do have an issue with, and this is any President, and no I don't like romnut either, is when they take credit for things they actually had nothing to do with the items.

I understand. But the difference is, he is an elected official who is campaigning. The tactic of saying anything to see if it sticks to the wall is cheap and that's what Coffman is doing. He's using a sleaze tactic that says more about him than what he is actually saying.

You want to read a stupid comment... you should catch the comment by Something the Dog Said... you know... the comment that started this thread.

So he should be free from adhering to the oath that he swore as a military officer?

Hasn't been in the military for quite sometime. What is it I hear all the time. Your fishing for the big one and got nothing.

Mike Coffman returned to active duty in the Marine Corps in 2005 took a leave of absence from his elected post in 2006 to do a tour in the Green Zone as part of the support of the Independent Electoral commission. His biography does not mention if and when he resigned from military service. He has been in the military for quite sometime. At least got a nibble.

I know about that since when he returned he was reappointed Sec of State. He did not resign. He was on recall and when he returned he was returned to retirement status as happens with Officers. I have spoken with Mike Coffman face to face a couple of times. He was invited and did show up at our VFW Breakfast.

Your previous post indicated that he had not been active since 2000, while he was active in 2006 or later. I acknowledged my mistake in believing that he was still in active status in an earlier post, but his bio did not indicate his status. Regardless his remarks were sleazy at best.

Something the Dog Said wrote: Republican congressman Mike Coffman made this remark in a public speech in Elbert County yesterday:

"I don't know whether Barack Obama was born in the United States of America. I don't know that," Coffman said. "But I do know this, that in his heart, he's not an American. He's just not an American.""

And I don't find his comments the least bit sleazy. More like an accurate assessment. Obuma has done more to ruin this country and still working on it.

The heart of the comment was that Coffman felt that Obama, the president who sees American Exceptionalism as being on par with Greek Exceptionalism, wasn't an American at heart. Had little, if anything, to do with where he was born and everything to do with their differing visions of what this union is all about.

"I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."

Notice something similar about the countries he chose to compare this union to? Both are former world powers - not current ones. Is there significance to his choices? That's a question one must answer for themselves.

Bingo..great observation!

I've lost respect for Coffman.

So Coffman has come groveling to apologize that his remarks were false, unwarranted and bone-headed.
