Knowing someone that was on the lay off list I would be great to see some of the incumbents get their 'walking papers'. Hell of a way to make a 'lowering expenses' statement. The total of those wages are a long way from the debt the county is in. Maybe then they can figure out there were real lives connected to the lay offs. For years they have been told to stop spending so much money. All the NEW, not all were used, vehicles were not necessary if they would learn they can put more than 130,000 miles on them. How many times do you see a patrol car just sitting on the side of the road, not using a bunch of gas, just running radar. Read the flume and compare the state patrol section with the county and see who writes all the tickets. Have you noticed the state has increased their presence on the highway? Maybe it would behoove the county do that. Really-radar works when one of the vehicles is sitting still. Here's one for you. Go to the parking lot of the jail and look in the corner inside the east fence. There is a bus sitting there since last December that hasn't had a inmate transported in it yet. Watch them move it now.
If you think the coroner's race is interesting you should look into the race for Sheriff. The Flume doesn't seem to do a very good job at reporting adverse information about this office even now when so much dirt and scandel has surfaced.
A past deputy was accused of impregnating two teenage girls while serving as a resource officer at the high school in Platte Canyon. He was allowed to quit his job instead of being brought up on charges.
A 2 yr. old child was grazed in the head by the service revolver of a deputy while he was having an altercation with his father.
The sheriff's office paid a 1.5 million fee to an inmate whom they ignored while ill. He subsequently lost a lung and a leg as a result of the illness. He was an illegal, which seemed to make it okay to ignore his medical condition.
The under sheriff had several charges brought against him in summit county which made him a prime candidate for this office in Park county.
A fedex employee found a pistol and turned it over to the Sheriff. A CBI investigation is being conducted as to the whereabouts of the gun after the fedex employee tried to claim it in the ninety day waiting period expired. This is not uncommon with confiscated property in this county.
Residents have complained to the sheriff's office for many years with no results, and finally there is someone who can stand up to the incumbent.
