Supreme Court to strike down individual mandate

The Supreme Court will soon announce its ruling on the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's health care law passed in 2010, and for many legal observers who have worked in the court and argued cases before the justices, the federal government's defense of the measure in March did not inspire confidence

A blow for liberty that I was not expecting. If you can tax me, and force me to pay social security, you should be able to make me buy health insurance.

The longer the Supreme Court waits to share this decision, the closer it will be to the 2012 presidential election and the more indelible a mark it will leave on the voting populous.

I think the Court Justices realize the gravity of their decision and are anguishing over the implications it will have on the outcome of the election. Without an individual mandate to the healthcare law Obama knows the crown jewel of his presidency goes down in smoke and all he has to lean on for the upcoming election is his economic record and some fuzzy foreign policy.

He knows he is toast.

I was against the mandate , all they had to do was exempt medical debt for being eligible for bankruptcy protection.
Problem solved. Then take the risk.

Then why have any bankruptcy law at all jmc? The bankruptcy laws are there precisely to allow one to take a risk and fail without bearing the burden of that debt for the rest of their natural life. You don't think that every single good you purchase and service you receive is more expensive because of the bankruptcy laws? Are you not aware that everything you acquire from someone else is more expensive because someone, somewhere along the way, made off with that product without paying for it? Why is it, precisely, that everyone expects that health care is going to be somehow different from every other commodity that is available in the marketplace? You pay more for car insurance because some people defraud the insurance companies. You pay more for your food because some people place items beneath their coats and walk out of the store without paying for those vittles. Your credit card interest rate is higher because some people purchase a large amount of things on credit and then default on their obligations when they declare bankruptcy. Please, explain it to me, why is it believed that health care is immune from these market forces?

Student loans, president has been set. Taxes and Govt. bucks are set aside. Including taxes. Govt. is heavily involved in health care an easy leap.
Better than a mandate.

That's not a Federal law... and has noting to do with the interstate Commerce Clause... thanks for playing.

So, I guess you should add "I hope" to the thread title to make it accurate.
