The insurance company could raise my premiums as much as they wanted and I had no choice but to stay with them or go without. If we had the ACA then I could have changed to a lower cost plan and saved at least $5,000/year. As a single mom, self employed, and a kid in college, it sure would have helped.

I'm not sure what year this happened or what state you were in. But I checked today's rates at covercolorado.org (they provide high risk health insurance) for a female close to Medicare age in Park County, CO (not trying to be specific to you since I don't know the details, just being generic and trying worst case).

They list a $5000 deductible HSA for $608 a month, or $496 if income is under $50K, or $434 if income is under $40K.

Were you in Colorado at the time, and did you look into them?

I definitely think we should remember to thank Mitt Romney for his leadership in universal health care.
Without him, it might not have been possible.

I do hope the GOP remembers this.

How nice of you to assume you know what I needed.......your arrogance knows no bounds. Did you check to see if my doctors were covered? How about my prescriptions? Did you check to see if they would cover me for the 6 months I am in Arizona (hint....no they don't, except for urgent care) Did you see if preventative procedures were covered, and for how much? It was a colonoscopy that was covered by my insurance that saved my life. I found your post pretty offensive......and intrusive.

Yes I was in CO....and no covercolorado would not be a solution. There are only a few companies that operate both in CO and AZ....BC/BS....who I was with, Aetna who denied me, and United Healthcare who also denied me. BC/BS wouldn't allow me to drop to a lower cost plan without re-applying and they were pretty honest that I probably wouldn't qualify.

Geeze, how much clearer could I of been? I was looking at a generic, worst case premium for Colorado high risk. I also asked if you were in CO.

Yes, straight from the horse's mouth:

That was then... "'Either Buy The Insurance Or Pay Your Own Way. Don't Be Free-Riders..." and this is now... " he has made clear that he favors tax breaks, increased competition and devolving decisions to states to make health care more affordable, proposals that reflect a consensus on health policy that has solidified in the last decade among Republicans."

That was then... "President Obama Won't Raise Taxes On Anyone Making Less Than $250,000 A Year..." and this is now... "Even analysts at liberal economic think tanks have said that the Affordable Care Act amounted to a $525 billion tax increase."

Words to live by.

Barack Obama vows to not raise taxes on Americans earning less than $250,000.

It's also none of your friggin' business, and how presumptuous to shove your political insanity into her business and presume to know what she needs.

I could watch this for maybe 30 seconds...and then you make me want to puke.

Hey guys,

I realize you don't know pineinthegrass as well as I do, but I just want to interject that he is one of the most honest, upstanding good guys that I've had the pleasure and honor of meeting through 285Bound. If he's asking questions, or pointing things out, it's not to be mean and nasty, but because he's a left-brained, rational, logical thinker like me. He's not doing it to be rude or mean, as I haven't seen that attitude in him in the year and a half since I met him. He loves debates with facts, and will question everything, as I do!

Just thought I'd let you know. Back on topic, sorry for the interruption.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
