Oh come on now, you know neither side has the cohones to actually seriously address the issue. As we have discussed multiple times: we need to secure the border, go after those companies who hire illegals, deport every single illegal who has entered the criminal justice system, and stop offering amnesty and amnesty light programs, such as the dream act. Even Canada is now limiting “refugees” access to their healthcare system.

I never said illegals only pick veggies.

So therefore your statement is false.

As for construction, it's too bad you guys are down on unions. They might have protected you.

Raees wrote: So you're applying to pick vegetables and mop the floor now?

Exactly WHAT jobs have you applied for that you are competing against illegals?

You specifically mentioned picking veggies and mopping the floors. You made it sound like those are the only jobs illegals are taking from Americans, or causing wages to drop substantially. If you meant something else, state that.

Unions could do nothing to compete against companies using illegals. They just wouldn't compete...it isn't like they can unionize the illegals. In fact, Unions are on the same side as we conservatives on this issue. Illegals are destroying the wages of working people.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

Like the 50% of American teens who can't find work? Without illegals here, wages would have to rise and young Americans could find work.

And if wages rise, who does that increased cost get passed on to??

Seriously? You think wages should not be a supply/demand thing? Of course the costs get passed on to the consumer...but it is based on demand, not some artificial "minimum wage".

Raees wrote: What has not been mentioned in this debate is if we made all the illegals who pick crops and work for lower wages... made them legal citizens... it would also raise the operating cost of businesses, since they'd be covered by wage & hour. Of course, then we'd get taxes from the newly acquired citizens.

No we wouldn't get any taxes. They would be net tax receivers. Why not do a better thing, and substantially increase the H2B & H2A programs on an as needed basis, and close the borders. I don't want people in the US who we don't know who they are.

The argument that our produce would cost more is really just a hollow argument.

The actual impact to a head of lettuce would be so minimal- just a few pennies difference. Yes- if a farmer is paying illegals less than minimum wage- that is also illegal.

Just for a quick example- if an illegal is making $3.00/hr and the (federal) minimum wage is $7.25- that a difference of $4.25/hr.

Lets say a good illegal can pick 100 heads of lettuce an hour- so the impact would be 4.25 cents per head of lettuce.

It is against the law in the USA for any hourly job to pay less than the lawful minimum wage. I don't agree with the minimum wage at all- but it is the law.

By law there should be no business anywhere in the country paying less than minimum- if they do- then they are criminals.

You know what? After seeing what damage this illegal alien problem is causing to millions of American families- I'm willing to pay an extra 5 cents for my head of lettuce.

I applaud you for being simplistic once again. But, it's more than just salaries.

This breaking news just in.....
Retired porn star Jenna Jameson supports Mitt Romney

"I'm very looking forward to a Republican being back in office," Jameson said while sipping champagne in a VIP room at Gold Club in the city's South of Market neighborhood. "When you're rich, you want a Republican in office."

And that's not all...

Jameson isn't the first in the business to praise Romney: Ron Jeremy recently called Romney "a good man" and "such an amazing father." In an interview with Yahoo News earlier this year, gay porn titan Michael Lucas said he would "of course" support the former Massachusetts governor.

Well, that one sentence says it all: "When you're rich, you want a Republican in office." It's lovely to hold up as a shining example of voter support someone who is so obviously selfish that she puts her wants ahead of those of the country. Me, I vote for whomever I think is the better candidate and will do the best job as we need balance, integrity, honesty, and backbone. Dreamland, I'm sure, but I'm an optimist.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
