An American flag or for that matter any flag flown upside-down is considered a sign of distress...Mutiny, piracy, sinking, coup, rebellion of the people/government. The fact that any flag flown upside-down means distress is not the whole story however... flags flown upside-down can and are used as a form of protest.

You are right to fly the flag upside down Otis. The country is, indeed, in distress. It needs a leader but instead we reinstalled an assclown for four more years of bad policy. You are right to protest and I agree with your assessment of the situation.

I wholeheartedly agree with Otis and Lionshead. Carry on....

Keep up the name calling and general disrespect, it shows your character. You get what you give. I am not blameless in the name calling department, but I do try to be reasonable most of the time

According to the United States statutes, the US flag can only be flow upside down in times of DIRE EMERGENCY WHERE THERE IS EXTREME DANGER TO LIFE AND PROPERTY . To do so otherwise, according to the law, is a sign of disrespect to our country. It is sad at this time, this weekend, when we are showing respect to our brave veterans, fighting and dieing for our country and our flag, that Toad basically is pissing on them.

While you may have legitimate beefs with political parties, it is extremely disrespectful to our country and our military to fly the flag upside down. It really is sad that the consevatives have so little regard to our military veterans, particularly on this weekend of all weekends.

Your right soulshiner. Otis has his opinion and he is entitled to it just as you are entitled to yours.
You characterize Otis's opinion as a hissy fit.
Interesting take.
You yourself have given your opinion as fact by your characterization of others.
Surprising that you don't get that.

Becky wrote: Otis isn't disrespecting the flag. That is merely your opinion of what he is doing. That does not make you right. It just simply means that is your opinion. There are others who see it for exactly what it is.

According to federal law, Toad is absolutely disrespecting the flag, our country and our military.
Title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1, Section 8. Respect for flag
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

This falls along the same lines of burning the flag at the funeral of a military personnel killed in action. While it may be legal, it is extremely poor taste and absolutely disrespectfully to our veterans on this the weekend when they should be honored.

It tells an immense amount of the conservatives at this site who support this disrespect.

Thank you STDS. I sincerely believe that the country is in dire straights and that there is extreme danger to life and property. It will be come clearer over the next few months as more businesses let people go and the economy continues to collapse.

BTW your broad brush about conservatives having so little regard to our military is pathetic.

I can certainly sympathize and agree with his distress.
His way of life has been threatened and his property is about to be stolen.
Seems as good a reason as any to fly the flag the way he has. :)

Somehow I doubt that our combat veterans would agree with you. For them, a dire emergency is something more than the democratic electoral process taking place, that to them it would mean imminent danger of loss of life and limb for them putting their lives on the line for our country and our flag. But hey, what does that mean to a conservative.

Apparently it means nothing.
