Somehow I doubt that our combat veterans would agree with you. For them, a dire emergency is something more than the democratic electoral process taking place, that to them it would mean imminent danger of loss of life and limb for them putting their lives on the line for our country and our flag. But hey, what does that mean to a conservative.

Apparently it means nothing.

My point has been made.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

on that note wrote: I spoke with members of my family that have served in combat over the last 70 years. They said they fought for his right to display the flag or say anything he wants. Other may disagree, but not all service members worship symbols, some of them stand for real principals, like freedom. The common theme was they risked their lives so that he could do anything he wanted with the flag, not the opposite. Most of them are of the WWII gen, not the newer gens.

I hope those that are having the real hissy fit here should consider how disrespectful the flag code is to free speech and if such code were to be enforced as law (which it is NOT) would be unconstitutional. I see many people leave flags up at night and not lower them when required, perhaps its time for a new police force? Remember that code also says that the flag shall not be used in ads or marketing and that is DONE ALL THE TIME. So if you are shopping this weekend and see someone with a vet day sale with a flag in their marketing, go in and give them the same non-freedom earful you are giving here.

We know we have failed as a group when the group puts respect for the flag over respect for an individual's opinion, which is so much more important. The person is alive, the flag is not. If you need such symbols to respect your country, your respect is not as real as you thought. Symbols are usually used to get people to give up free will, stop thinking and just fall into line, keep that in mind and fall back into line.

Very little is more disrespectful than putting your hand over someone's mouth.

Not a single poster has said anything about Toad not having the right to post something as distatesful as the upside down flag. Nothing in the flag code stated that one can not fly a flag upside down. What posters here have stated and the flag code states is that it is DISRESPECTFUL to fly the flag upside down when there is no dire emergency.

We are discussing the lack of respect by Toad and the conservatives here who support him for our flag, our country and our military troops. We all agree that he has the right of free speech to do so, but we can certainly express our disgust at him for pissing all over military on the weekend when we should be honoring them.

I don't think Toad is pissing all over our flag and veterans but I do think it is an over reaction. There are still checks and balances and while the US is on the wrong track we are not past the point of no return.

That's a good point Fred. If the extreme liberals had a super majority in both houses, we'd certainly be in distress - Same as if the extreme conservatives had the same.

That's not the case. The senate is still democrat, the house is republican. There are checks and balances in place to keep the most extreme views of both parties out of legislation. There will be no single payer, and there will be no ban on abortions. We will only see moderate legislation coming through because the liberal agenda will be blocked by the republicans, and the conservative agenda won't get a vote in the senate.

As a nation we are currently swinging to the left. The pendulum will shift eventually, just like it always does. It's why we've lasted 200+ years, and it's why we'll continue for many more.

I do think that the upside down flag made a statement, I don't think it is nearly as disrespectful as burning a flag in protest... It's more along the lines of leaving a flag out overnight without lighting.

I'm gonna go find a Veteran's day thread and post up my thanks. The hissy fits on both sides of this thread are tiring.
