I have read http://www.aljazeera.com/ as one of my news sources for years. It's on my home page feed along with CNN, USA TODAY, NPR, NYT, Discovery News, Tech Dirt and a general technology feed. The only problem I see them having is that most Americans really don't care or want to know about things going on in the rest of the world. Their focus is more global than local.

I don't think it is a question of it bothering anyone, as is there a US market and enough viewership for this international network? I guess they will find out soon. Apparently there is already a US Al Jazeera network with ~5 million subscribers in NY and DC, etc.

I bet Popeyes does great in the Chocolate City, the one on Colfax is always packed. One time I went in there on the way home from the airport to get a 24 box for the family- The counter girl says "and you get an apple pie with that sir", and she gives me one..a twelve inch pie in a white box- Some kind of promotion..I put it on the counter behind me, a few minutes later another counter person asked if I needed help and I told her "no, I'm waiting for a 24box"..And she said.."hey, you get an apple pie with that!" and gives me one...I put it on the counter behind me. Five minutes later when the chicken was up another guys calls my number and gives me my 24 box and puts an apple pie in the big bag with it...I got 3 apple pies and I was only supposed to get one!

What about that other anti-American Arabic network?

Jon Stewart played a clip of a Saudi cleric saying that Jews made matzos with human blood, among other absurdities.

“You know, if that were true you’d think matzos would be more flavorful, but its not,” he joked. “That’s just awful. To air that on Al Jazeera — oh, I’m sorry, that didn’t air on Al Jazeera, that aired on a network called Rotana. That’s my fault, that’s another television station in the Arab world. That one is owned not by Qatar, but by a Saudi prince named Al-Waleed bin Talal and also 20 percent of that is owned by a guy named Rupert Murdoch.”

(Al-Waleed bin Talal is the #2 shareholder in Fox News' parent company)

Typical John Stewart only discuss the Gore deal after figuring out the best way to rip on Fox. Yes he isn't slanted he is just entertaining.

I am sure that Saudi Prince signs off on every story broadcast on his network. lol

Ever listen to some of the wacky content on AM radio on the weekend mornings? (or late night).

That's the kind of time slot that generated the material the clip comes from.

Yeah - it exists - but it does not necessarily represent the view of the station, and certainly does not represent the views of any country.
