Gun linked to Colorado prison chief slaying leads to woman's arrest
Stevie Marie Vigil, 22, was arrested on Wednesday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations said in a statement. Investigators say that she is suspected of illegally transferring the firearm to ex-convict Evan Ebel, 28, after purchasing it from an Englewood, Colo., firearms dealer.
Investigators worked with the El Paso County Sheriff’s office and the licensed firearms dealer to track down the gun’s purchaser. While Vigil’s purchase of the gun was legal, her transfer of the gun to Ebel was not, investigators said.
Arrest records for Vigil are sealed. She was placed in the Arapahoe County Jail on Wednesday and bond was set at $25,000, the CBI said. She could face charges for the unlawful purchase of a firearm.
Weelllll....Let's hear it for GUN DATABASES!.... Hopefully, they put this slime away for a VERY long time for illegally transferring this weapon to someone who should not have gotten it in the first place...
Gun database? How was this done? The police gave the serial number to Smith & Wesson and the company told them which dealer ordered the gun from them. The dealer then had to go through his files, most likely by hand and found out the buyer.
And this system had been working for decades. Of course, a couple face to face private sale transactions or grinding down the serial numbers would make this a lot tougher.
Silly woman! Who sells or gives a pistol to a former convict?
Hopefully, in her case, he stole it.

Y'know there are laws against murder too...And it doesn't keep it from happening.
There are laws against speeding, and DWI/DUI...It doesn't keep it from happening.
There are laws against writing bad checks, and rape, and stock fraud, and bank-fraud, and a lot of other things...It doesn't keep it from happening.
"It doesn't keep it from happening" is a bullsh*t reason NOT to pass the laws... Unless, of course, you think we should take laws prohibiting murder, rape, bad checks, speeding, DUI, bank fraud, etc., off the books, since "it doesn't stop it from happening." I just love this kind of stupidity...I could sit and watch it for hours.
I want to see laws on universal background checks; magazine limits; confiscation of guns from domestic-violence/abuser cretins; assault weapons, and hopefully, a registration database someday. "It doesn't keep it from happening..." Yeah, I know. But neither do laws about murder. But it's a start.

Watch out. You crow too much in front of the pendulum when it's on your side and it's gonna smack you right in the back of the head when it swings to the right again.
