Holder runs into roadblocks on off-the-record meetings on leaks
Washington (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder's plans to sit down with media representatives to discuss guidelines for handling investigations into leaks to the news media have run into trouble.
The Associated Press issued a statement Wednesday objecting to plans for the meetings to be off the record. "If it is not on the record, AP will not attend and instead will offer our views on how the regulations should be updated in an open letter," said Erin Madigan White, the AP's media relations manager.
The New York Times is taking the same position. "It isn't appropriate for us to attend an off-the-record meeting with the attorney general," executive editor Jill Abramson said in a statement.
I'd like to paraphrase a line from one of my plays... "This meeting has become a caricature of the journalistic process. The very act of not allowing on-the-record reporting by a press who is convinced that the administration is spying behind their back seems to me to be a idiotic move on the part of the DOJ"
Original line ("Your sessions with Mr. Douglas have become a caricature of the therapeutic process. The very act of tape recording every hour with a man who is convinced that people are talking about him behind his back seems to me to be a violent intrusion into his anguish.")
(And a little note for Something the Dog Said... our resident copyright Nazi... please read this disclaimer. The above line of dialog and the paraphrase is used by permission from Walter L. Newton and may be clipped and pasted by any other 285 Bound user EXCEPT Something the Dog Said)
Most transparant administration ever? Good to see the press standing up against Team Obama. The people need to know. The NYT is now even starting to look at the Obama's expensive travel habits
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Hopefully the press that attends will leak to the press that doesn't... then they can report to the people who deserve to know what BS is being spewed. But given this guy's record, I would be suspicious of some sort of trap, meant to turn this back on the press and help give Holder time to mend his wounds.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
And here is what the spokesperson for the DNC had to say about the presses refusal to meet with Holder off-the-record...
POTUS asked AG to review how leak investigations are done but some in the media refuse to meet with him. Kind of forfeits your right gripe.—

Kind of gives new meaning to the 1st amendment... doesn't it? Here's a paraphrase of Woodhouses remark from a comment on Twitchy...
"Joseph Goebbels holds off-the-record press conference to explain death camps, but some in the media refuse to meet with him. Kind of forfeits your right gripe." -- Brad Woodhouse

My understanding is the press is refusing the invite. That means they have finally reached a bridge to far, a line they will not cross. Will they get on the rooftops and start screaming it? Will the grass roots care?

Time will tell.
I didn't think that ALL the press wasn't attending, but I hope that's the case. That would make Holder look even more pathetic (if that's possible).

"CNN, the AP, the NY Times and others are declining to meet with holder as long as the meetings are kept off the record. It isn’t yet clear whether ABC News or NBC News will attend the meetings.
Update: HuffPost’s Michael Calderone reports that ABC News, Politico and The Washington Post will attend the meetings. Fox News will not attend if it is off the record:".................
