That's going to haunt the Dems in Nov. 2014... will make for some great TV and radio ads when people are still in sticker shock for the "Affordable" Care Act.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I thought you could satisfy the ACA requirement with $95?

That is pretty cheap.

Though it is a significant increase, you used to be able to satisfy your required health insurance with $0.

What is to stop folks from paying the fine and then banding together privately in groups to share health costs. There are other solutions.

THAT would take some independent thought and I do NOT see brain-storming being done.....I
believe CONCIERGE medicine is one spectrum and what else does not fit, falls into medicare/medicad.....the WHOLE of this topic boils down to this......change is ALWAYS messy,
unorganized,tumultuous....healthcare is this country can NOT continue down the current path
because it is Unsustainable, something is required to be modified....THAT is what we are
currently up against....a RADICAL change in the paradigm.....this time NEXT YEAR will be the
telling story....JMO

Problem is that the focus has been on insurance, not cost. The price of insurance is DIRECTLY related to the cost of the product...which was completely ignored. So we can try to do all these changes, but we are still on the same bad path or worse.

I think part of the problem with cost of services is all of the regulations that have to be followed. Like the Conflict Mineral Act aka Dodd-Frank. In my job, I spend an hour per request filling out the forms from the companies that send them--I can't imagine how many hours were spent by the companies creating their questionnaires and forms and figuring out who will compile the information and file it. Instead of a five page questionnaire, the first question should be do you use gold, tungsten, tin, & tantalum in your product. If the answer is no, there is absolutely no need to fill out the remaining 4 and a half pages of questions. But no...all of the pages have to be filled out with the word "no".

Ridiculous and time-wasting.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is expected to appeal to US President Barack Obama, who he is meeting at the White House Friday, for more American assistance as violence in his country reaches record levels.

Iraq's slide back into violence has revived questions here about the wisdom of the complete US withdrawal, the Maliki government's conduct since and America's future relationship with a nation it invaded in 2003 to topple Saddam Hussein.

Could a prolonged US presence have quelled the Al-Qaeda resurgence? Or was a sectarian breakdown inevitable, given Iraq's restive neigborhood, fractured ethnic make-up and tortured domestic politics?

The Iraq of November 1, 2013 bears little resemblance to the picture Obama painted two years ago when troops came home, when he hailed the "extraordinary" US achievement.

"We are leaving behind a sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq," Obama said.

I have read some highlights from a new book about the W years in the White House and it has some interesting tidbits. W really tried to teach l-Maliki how to be a good leader and wanted the US to maintain a small rapid reaction force in Iraq to maintain order if things got really out of hand. Hillary Clinton was supposed to handle the negotiations for that but the Iraqis resisted and she gave up. Now it looks like Nouri regrets his hard headed demands and wants the US to back him up. What will Obama do? And will he have to read the NY Times to find out what is currently happening in Iraq?
