Uh, I noticed that Michelle Obama is not an elected representative, and not even a Federal Employee. So Priviate citizens can enact rules and mandates over the entire country too? Cool!

No LOL, only key members of the Proletariat are allowed to establish new rules, change, and enforce them in the kingdom. The rest of us are obligated to acknowledge our Glorious Leader and the key members of his inner circle, be silent and obey - or else!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

It has been a long tradition of first ladies to use their high profile position to promote positive change in many areas of our lives. Laura Bush was the driving force behind improvements in education, promoting reading skills, higher pay for teachers, better education for head start teachers and aides, better funding for libraries. Lady Bird Johnson promoted legislation and campaigns to improve the national park system and to conserve our natural resources. Nancy Reagan was very involved in the affairs of state as first lady, most especially her influence in foreign policy regarding the Soviets.

Perhaps you think the First Lady of the United States should be seen and not heard, fortunately for our country most people don't hold that view and our country it's better for the involvement of many first ladies over the years.

Perhaps the above link will give some of you a better appreciation for what First Ladies have done for this country over the years.

Did anyone notice the PROBLEMS with Mrs. Obama’s Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act?

1) kids throwing out their fruits and vegetables
2) student boycotts,
3) higher lunch costs,
4) odd food pairings such as “cheese stick with shrimp”
5) complicated rules.

Lady Jazzer plays all you folks like a fiddle and manages to totally deflect from the ACTUAL topic of the thread, which is (do I have to remind anyone again)... Mrs. Obama’s Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act WHICH IS NOT WORKING. And you took the bait.

Rev, it looks to me that you are the first in this thread to even acknowledge that LJ made one of her typical drive by "I HATE YOU ALL" posts. The last time I took bait from LJ was at least 10 thousand of her posts ago.

I'm flattered...It took you two pages before you started in on the "LJ Derangement Syndrome" Pit-TEA-Party

And I'll STILL see your "Freebeacon" and raise you a "Crooks & Liars"... I want to thank all the knuckle-draggers. It must make you feel so good to take out your Randriod cult on innocent kids.

And all of the links were to verifiable instances of the knuckle-draggers trying to take food out of kid's mouths. You must be so proud.

As for the rest of your diatribe on Mrs. Obama, well, Haters Gonna Hate.

And not a single one of you links had to do with Mrs. Obama’s Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act which is the topic of this thread. Of course, you already knew that.

And the "hate" gambit has gone to the same place as the "racist" gambit. In the toilet.

"The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act allows USDA, for the first time in over
30 years, opportunity to make real reforms to the school lunch and
breakfast programs by improving the critical nutrition and hunger safety
net for millions of children." (From USDA.gov)

Yep that sounds like something to oppose, we sure don't want to improve our kids nutrition, and going hungry is good, right? In this instant gratification world, if the program isn't instantly successful then scrap it. Yet the work Michelle has done has been successful. The number of community gardens had grown since Michelle started the White House garden. Bringing fresh produce to urban areas is generally considered a good thing. And her exercise agenda has increased the amount of exercise included in the school day, especially for young kids. She had partnered with organizations like the NFL to promote fitness. These are all good things IMHO, the constant criticism of her desire to improve our children's lives and health baffles me.

Who's opposing it? The article BB posted was discussing the problem that have arisen in instigating the program in schools, and the reaction from the children.

I think healthy eating is a fine idea.

Instead of just assuming people are "haters," it may be a good idea if those responsible for the program reexamine aspect of the program that may be problematic and try to make adjustment.

What a novel idea.

Maybe I'm missing something here but isn't it the parents responsibility to teach kids about healthy eating, physical fitness, and general health issues? Has our Democratic Republic become so severely compromised that we need the Gubment and the Worst Lady to dictate to us what we can and can't eat, how much exercise everyone should get on a daily basis, and govern every aspect of our healthcare to the point that the IRS can fine you for non-compliance?

Oh, wait... Yes, we are there because the takers and the fans of Socialism continue to elect officials that believe it's perfectly acceptable to have the Gubment control EVERY aspect of our daily lives; comply or pay the penalty.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I think that is how we got into this whole obesity issue in our kids, no one cares what they get fed in school.....whatever is cheapest. No one cares if gym class is eliminated, let's save money and if the kids suffer, that's ok. And when someone, like Michelle Obama, comes along and says...this is wrong, our kids deserve better, as a country we can do better, she gets vilified. How you can be willing to let the local school board decide what is best to feed your kids, no matter how unhealthy, then complain when someone wants to provide better, healthier food for the kids, makes no sense. Do you have kids Otis?
