Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

Why? I have been getting some excellent medical care under Medicare, or don't you consider that a government run clusterf***? How does the entity paying the bills determine the level of care and concern provide by your doctor?Rick wrote:

This is a good goal which I believe would be unreachable under a government run clusterf***. JMO

The main part of that I see dissolving is the "spend time with their patients" aspect. You may not agree that a more gov't controlled, or completely controlled system will result in less doctors entering the field and more patients per doctor, but I do. Even with my very efficient Kaiser doctors, they have limited time as it is... add the fact that gov''t control will result in...archer wrote:

Doctors seeing Medicare patients face a 24 percent cut in reimbursements beginning January 1. But almost no one has grasped that those cuts will hit Medicaid too—thanks to Obamacare. Unless Congress acts, we’re likely to see a huge exodus of doctors who will not accept either Medicare or Medicaid patients.

Do you think the AMA would have backed the ACA if it actually read the fine print? Hurting doctors WILL hurt patients.... basic common sense here (unless you have a counter argument)Medical group that backed ObamaCare warns obscure rule could hurt doctors
he largest doctors group in the country is raising alarm that an obscure ObamaCare rule could stick them with the tab for patients who skip out on paying their premiums.
The American Medical Association, which originally supported the Affordable Care Act, warned the rule could pose a "significant financial risk" for doctors and hospitals, and on Wednesday blasted out guidelines to help members try and avoid those costs.
At issue is a 90-day "grace period" which lets patients who are not paying their premiums keep coverage for 90 days before it can be canceled.
Under the rule, insurers are responsible for paying any claims during the first month of that period -- but not necessarily for any claims during the final 60 days.
"Managing risk is typically a role for insurers, but the grace period rule transfers two-thirds of that risk from the insurers to physicians and health care providers," AMA President Ardis Dee Hoven said in a statement.

I don't believe the change you are anticipating will happen... there will be change all right, but it's not the kind of change that places more power in the hands of the individual.homeagain wrote: And THAT is why functional Medicine AND concierge (boutique doctors) medicine will thrive.....
the present system does NOT work, the proposed system (Obamacare) was NOT well thought
out and the application is reflecting that error.....IT IS ALL BROKE and another paradigm needs/
requires that it be replaced.....this is NOT going to be pretty and it is going to be painful, but
like ALL things that require change....it WILL happen....be proactive and be your OWN advocate.
