MONTANA DEM SENATOR REVEALED AS PLAGIARIST

I believe he is referring to a group of people that have aligned themselves with a political party from which their candidate gets financial support. Much as Democrats do. As far as I know contributors to certain political parties also receive tax breaks. knuckle draggers, randroids and lefties and many other insults, are just that, insults.

Quite true, but to my lights, if one can construe "the left" as a pejorative, you can interpret "the Republicans" as one too.

Absolutely. It completely depends upon the context in which it's used, same as with the label "the left", "the right", "liberals", or "conservatives". If the writer/speaker's intention is to use it as a derogatory, insulting description then it's an insult and not just an identifier/descriptor.

[sarcasm]SC, you're missing the point. You either agree with me or you're wrong - it really is that simple.[/sarcasm]

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

OK, I'm just catching up here, but you just reminded me about lie'n Joe Biden.

This guy not only plagiarized, but he went beyond it by using the plagiarism to make up lies about his own life. And he did it while running for president. Yeah, it was a long time ago but why is this serial liar our vice president? Gee, I remember Romney being attacked for cutting some kids hair while in high school. But I don't recall Romney running for president while in high school.

People come and go as they please. I hardly see 'leftie' or 'rightie' being perjorative and doubt it will ever go away. Now dumba$$ or something similar or the many derogatory references to the tea party which the person from the left engaged in, that's derogatory.

ScienceChic wrote: I'm disappointed that it's the "They do it too" response - that doesn't make it acceptable, and yes, I've called out those on "that" side who've done it as well so we're going to stop the complaint that I'm being partial and unfair before it begins. So shall we continue doing the same boring crap, or do we want to try to improve our dialog by listening to each other, discovering why we believe what we believe, and see if there's an illogical flaw somewhere that can be pointed out to change minds, or just agree to disagree on that small point while understanding that we all want the same big picture things?

And in case you hadn't noticed, that member has disappeared too. I'm tired of people leaving, you all should be too, unless you prefer chatting with the same few only...

Let's start making this the place to have fun, and have good conversations! Dammit! :)

As I recall from Latin class many years ago:

Origin of SINISTER

Middle English sinistre, from Anglo-French senestre on the left, from Latin sinistr-, sinister on the left side, unlucky, inauspicious

My mother, the Latin teacher, enjoyed pointing that out!

Comprehensive is Latin for there is lots of bad stuff in it - Trey Gowdy

ScienceChic wrote: By "the left" I assume you mean those neighbors who post here who are liberals? Maybe if they weren't de-humanized by being called "the left", with stereotypical traits of liberals as a group constantly assigned to them regardless of whether it fits them or not, and rather instead addressed as individuals who have a right to their opinions, of which everyone is a unique blend that cannot be easily fit into a neat box, without continually being belittled for their beliefs, then maybe they might participate more often. I know it sure does get old and boring for me to keep reading comments such as that, and make me feel like trying to debate is an exercise in futile sado-masochism.

I've never minded being labeled a righty or conservative because that is an accurate general description of my political leanings... in fact I'm proud of it. I do take offense to unnecessary derogatory terms like teabagger, cracker, and inaccurate descriptions like selfish, gun nut, and neocon (most people use that term incorrectly). But, I also don't think any of that makes me feel dehumanized... only angry, and who really wants to use their spare time being angry?

That said, I appreciate your sincere attempt to steer the forum into a better and more tolerable direction. Good leaders lead everybody and not just those they agree with, and shaming your own is very rare indeed. Our president could learn a thing or two from you. I may have to visit more often as the air feels a little fresher around here for some reason :)

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
