So Trump, in his written answers to Mueller, claimed “I do not recall discussing WikiLeaks with [Stone], nor do I recall being aware of Mr. Stone having discussed WikiLeaks with individuals associated with my campaign.” Rick Gates testified during this trial that "he overheard Trump talking with Stone" and that "Trump predicted more WikiLeaks releases."

Stone was the point of coordination between the campaign and WikiLeaks. Gates testified that Stone and Trump had direct contact about this. What remains to be proven is whether WikiLeaks was simply a front for Russian government disinformation campaigns.

Roger Stone found guilty of lying to Congress, witness tampering

Roger Stone has been found guilty on all charges in a case accusing the longtime Donald Trump adviser of seeking to thwart a House investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

After a trial that spanned just over a week, a federal court jury in Washington, D.C., convicted Stone on five felony counts of lying to investigators, one count of obstructing a congressional probe and one count of witness tampering.

Stone’s trial produced several notable revelations about Trump's campaign and WikiLeaks.

Is WikiLeaks a Russian Front?
DAVID A. GRAHAM | NOVEMBER 29, 2018

The more consequential questions are what Trump knew about the back channel to WikiLeaks and when he knew it. As my colleague Natasha Bertrand has reported, Stone has repeatedly changed his story to authorities about his communications with both WikiLeaks and Trump campaign officials. Stone also pushed the Seth Rich conspiracy theory. But while Stone was believed to be in touch with people in the Trump campaign, it’s not clear whether the candidate himself was aware of those communications.

CNN reports that Trump told Mueller, in written answers to questions, that Stone never told him about the talks with WikiLeaks.

Mueller was hamstrung by uncooperative witnesses.
What Roger Stone's trial revealed about Trump and Mueller

Federal judges have hinted at it, and so did Mueller in his report. But Stone's trial was the most explicit public acknowledgment that Mueller hit dead ends during his investigation.
Prosecutors investigated Stone for possible hacking, wire fraud and foreign contributions violations, according to previously released court documents. But ultimately he was only charged with process crimes related to his congressional testimony.

Why? It's still not clear. But one reason may be that Mueller's team just couldn't get to all the evidence it needed. The Mueller report noted that some text messages from key players were gone forever, and others in Trump's orbit refused to testify, citing their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.

"Gaps" of evidence that Mueller described in his report "adversely affected the investigation and, in some instances, precluded the special counsel from reaching any conclusion about whether criminal conduct occurred," federal judge Beryl Howell of the DC District Court noted in a recent opinion in an unrelated case about Mueller's work.

Says one of the people who trusted the collective media to tell the truth, all the truth, good or bad, when it came to the Russia investigation. You fell right in line and had no idea how biased your sources where and how many facts they chose not to share with you. You're part of a collective that continues to be disappointed because your side trusts a media that has consistently gotten it wrong for over 3 years. Maybe you think this time will be different? Wait for it......

4 lawyers quit case after DOJ decision on Stone prison time
By MICHAEL BALSAMO and ERIC TUCKER, AP News | 15 minutes ago

Tom Winter @Tom_Winter

NBC News: All four prosecutors have now asked the judge to leave the Roger Stone case.

Michael Marando joins Aaron Zelinsky, Jonathan Kravis, and Adam Jed in leaving the case after the Justice Department publicly rebuked the their recommended sentence of 7-9 years.

Brian Schatz @brianschatz

So for those of you who with a day job, here’s what happened: Roger Stone gets recommended for 7-9 years for his crimes. Trump tweets that it’s unfair. DOJ then intervenes to reduce the prison term, something that is literally never done.
