A Ted talk is an anecdote, not a fact. I know you don't want to believe it but in the last thirty years, fertility have plummeted, even in the developing world. And a large part of that is women are getting more power, better jobs, more education, and better access to birth control. They are more likely to be equals or independent.
Men? Since Roe V. Wade, they are less likely to be married. Less likely to have children. Less likely to live with their children. I am not saying this is because of abortion, but I'd did start trending at the same time. Maybe birth control access grew?
