The Feds have to create another Omnibus spending bill before Thanksgiving. I am guessing it will once again spend too much and be unable to actually implement any spending cuts. With Afghanistan over, we should really look at cutting military spending but instead we continue to give military aid to both Ukraine and Israel. Plus soon we will be spending money to rebuild the Gaza Strip and Eastern Ukraine.

boys in a sandbox fight .....throwing sand .WHERE R THE GROWN UPS????

Over the spring and summer, the U.S. risked defaulting on its debt after Republicans refused to raise the debt ceiling unless their demands for budget cuts were met by Democrats.

Additionally, as Congress continues to fail to pass a budget, a government shutdown next week appears increasingly likely.

Moody’s assessment suggested it doesn’t believe the U.S. is on the right path to solving these political issues, which threaten the U.S.’ ability to avoid defaults on its debt obligations.

Good! Less government does, the better. Let non-essential government employees have some time off with their families.

HA, do you think the country would get out of this mess if the Republicans all became weak moderates and decided to go along with every spending spree the Democrats wanted?

I wholeheartedly BELIEVE that If egos were put aside (and there r some mega macho asses) and the business of THE PEOPLE was made top priority....MOODY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE A MOVE. The total dysfunctional disaster was avoidable. McCarthy was a sacrificial lamb and STILL the stalemate is going to
result iin a shut down...GOOD JOB IDIOTS.

Time to get rid of the debt limit? Just let Congress spend whatever they want? Do you want our legislative branch to have a no-limit charge card? The real American Express!

Then we will no longer have these passion plays.

Good question Fred... I saked it in a different way but I'm not sure HA picked up on it.

Should we defy the math and grow our debt to the point that we have no chance of reversing the country killing spiral? I think we are already there, but why the rush to finish us off?

Stop believing that lie. Clinton's budget was trending to becoming a balanced budget but this was because the fiscal conservative Newt Gingrich helped write it. Somehow every time it seems like a good idea to get a grip on spending, another war is created, or a plague, or even a "climate emergency" in order to start writing bad checks.
