Republicans: No Christmas for jobless

So today the Republicans have denied unemployment benefits to the unemployed at the same time they are demanding $1.5 trillion added to the deficit to cut taxes on the wealthiest 2 percent. So at least we know where their priorities are.

No extension. Force Americans to take jobs from illegals, that will put pressure on employers to pay more.

If you can't put all the fact down then don't put nothing down. The Republicans did not deny umemployment benefits, what they did was vote down the way the democrats wanted to do it by just adding to the deficit, instead of using unspent money from the stimulus bill. So get it right.

My statement is 100% correct. The Republicans voted down the unemployment benefits extension. Period. Their reasoning was that it was due to it adding to the deficit, however, at the same time they are advocating adding an additional $1.5 trillion to the deficit for tax breaks to 2% of the population. So the Republicans have no problem adding to the deficit on the part of the wealthy 2% but deny helping out the lowest 10% at a much less cost, and one that would actually benefit the economy.

Can you give a source for the $1.5 trillion you state? The figure I've heard over and over again is $700 billion, as reported as well in the link below. And here is additional info about how this happened and the reasoning...

An extension of jobless benefits enacted this summer expires Dec. 1, and on Thursday, a bill to extend them for three months failed in the House. Democrats brought the bill to the floor under fast-track rules that required a two-thirds vote to pass. Republicans opposed the legislation because they were denied a chance to attach spending cuts, so the measure fell despite winning a 258-154 majority.

The tax cuts expire Dec. 31, and Democrats oppose permanently extending the upper-bracket tax cuts, which would cost about $700 billion over 10 years.

Republicans maintain they're willing to extend the benefits but don't want to add the cost — $12.5 billion for three months — to the nation's $13.8 trillion national debt.

"The fact is, we can both provide this help and pay for it by cutting less effective stimulus spending," said Rep. Charles Boustany, R-La. "That's what we should be debating today."

Added Rep. Mike Pence, the No. 3 Republican in the House: "We're facing a fiscal crisis in this country. If we're going to choose to extend unemployment again we've got to find a way to pay for it."

Yeah, the Dems and Repubs haven't worried about the deficit in the past when it came to extending unemployment benefits. But we haven't had this huge of a deficit before, and have we ever extended benefits beyond 2 years? Why not take some money from the stimulus bill to pay for it? And isn't the recession officially over?

Why would leftists care about Christmas...for jobless or employed? You don't believe in Jesus or God. Christmas has always been just another excuse to demand paid time off through your unions. Now you can still have the time off, just not on our dime.

There are plenty of jobs out there. You just need to lower your inflated sense of self worth and take a job based on your experience, abilities and value to an employer. Boot the illegals and there is even more work for all of you.
