BREAKING NEWS: North Korea is firing on South Korea Island

South Korea is firing back and scrambling fighter jets.

South Korea says it has scrambled F-16 fighter jets and returned fire after North Korea shot dozens of rounds of artillery onto a populated South Korean island near the countries' western border.

South Korea's YTN television says two people were injured, several houses were on fire and that shells were still falling on Yeonpyeong island. Yonhap news agency, quoting a military official, says four soldiers are wounded. The reports couldn't be immediately verified.

YTN says that between 1,200 and 1,300 people live in the island, citing an island resident. TV pictures showed black and white smoke rising from the island.

200 rounds of artillery fired and it looks like they managed to hit six people: four soldiers and two civilians, but this is how world wars start.

2 troops killed (marines) not sure if they are US or South Korean..

200 rounds can't be explained away with an 'oops'.

It is now a very serious problem. I wonder what Obama will do about it.

I think he'll sit them down and have a very serious talk about the serious nature of their actions.

He'll expect an immediate apology.

Then he'll figure out how to use the situation to spend another couple o' billion dollars.

This could get interesting. We have forces scattered all throughout that country. Will Obama have the fortitude to make it perfectly clear to little kimmy that if one of our soldiers gets even a hangnail from these attacks, there will be a gift from the USA airmailed to him. :VeryScared:

I doubt it. He will think Diplomacy will work better and try harder to make them think we are their friends.

I hope this is just some saber rattling to divert attention from the nuclear plant news.

Obama will uphold our committments. This could get very ugly very fast.
