I really respect that Lee surrendered his army realizing their cause was lost instead of dispersing them and starting a guerilla campaign. I think this decision and Lincoln's choice of "malice to none and charity to all" helped the nation heal a lot quicker.

BTW, this year is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.

So they, the Republicans killed Lincoln, imposed reconstruction on the south and drove the southerners firmly into the Democrats court for the next 140 years.

I think the holiday is celebrated on this Monday in some Southern states.

Storeperson: Happy Robert E. Lee Day!
Student1: uh, who's Robert E. Lee? It's MLK Day.
Storeperson: You know, General Lee.
Student1: Oh yea, that was a hot car in the movie. What's that gotta do with Harvey Milk Day?

Doesn't the fact that he was defending slavery matter? Rommel was a great general defending evil too. Stupid topic!

Lee was a great American and one of the world's greatest icons of military leadership. You sir, can't handle the truth.

You sir, are living in the past. A relic of history, Lee lost and you are a loser trying to fight a battle lost 150 years ago. Get over it.
