Wisconsin Senate Set to Vote on Anti-Union Bill

Who knew teachers were such a special class that they don't have the freedom of speech or assembly that other Americans have......wow, that's a new one on me. I cannot believe that I am hearing Republicans, who so revere the constitution, complaining about people exercising their rights.

And yes, they will lie about sickness in order to protect their rights.....they are willing to take the chance of being fired to stand up for what they believe. if these were bankers protesting in the streets you would be applauding them.

Haven't been around so I haven't read the last few pages, but please answer me this archer. What other job can you not only not show up for work, but lie about being sick, and break laws by getting fake notes from doctors to make sure you don't have to do your job, and still have that job the next day when everyone knows about it? You guys are the epitamy of irresponsibility! I wouldn't want these teachers teaching ANY kids. They are teaching the exact opposite of personal responsibility. But I know that is what most liberals believe in.

Viking, I stated that they have lied, and risk being fired for it.....that is how passionate they are about this cause. They know the risks, and they have weighed their principles against their job and found that they have to stick with the principles. If you find that dispicable, so be it.

I don't think the teachers will win this one, they have a republican governor, and both houses of congress hell bent on bringing down the union.....so it will happen eventually. What will be interesting is how much of this footage will show up in Democratic campaign ads in 2012......the republicans may win this battle, but in the end lose the war of 2012.

So Archer you are basically caught up in the romanticism of the moment and not the reality.

As for footage, this will go down as a major accomplishments for the Republicans that they can proudly show off. What will the Democrats going to show, they lost? rofllol

Finally in Wisconsin they will have more recourse in getting rid of poor teachers and you think this is a bad thing?

Exactly. I think this footage will be shown by the Repbulicans in 2012. The majority of Americans are tired of the unions and will see this as a huge accomplishment for Americans. I can't wait for the Dems to try and spin this one to their minority who already vote for them

Viking, I hate to break this to you, but the teachers union is not the cause of a bad educational system in this country....nope, and if you break this union, nothing will change.....nothing. But the governor of Wisconsin will have gotten his revenge on the teachers, and life will go on, and teachers will pay the price....but educational standards will not change because the fundamental flaws in our system haven't changed. We will just have a cheaper system, not a better system. It's OK, I'm well aware that you, like the governor of Wisconsin and the legislature of many states, and the conservatives in general think that if they can just make those pesky liberals go away, if they can just get unions out of this country, if they can just get more power, well then little Johnny will finally be able to read.

I believe that the educational system in this country has been dominated by liberal teachers for more than 3 decades now. The system we have now - is in full control by the left and they have fine tuned the system to their advantage - and to the dis-advantage of our students.

The system we have is the result of hard work by the left. The results speak for themselves.

One thing that I would like to see change - is to start hiring more conservative minded teachers. The few conservative professors I had in school contributed more to whatever success I have obtained - than all of the liberal ones put together.

It's important to provide conservative values in grade school - so our kids know how the real world operates - not the pipe dream of the kumbaya world our liberals want to portray.

That said - there is a place in our society for a well rounded liberal education. Not every kid should become a doctor, or engineer or scientist.

Who's going to fetch my food and get it to the table before it gets cold? A graduate of the local arts school will. Who's gonna keep my water glass full? Maybe a degreed "art history" major. Who's gonna collect the trash - deliver the mail? Who's gonna work at the DMV? -Who's gonna be my "massage therapist?

Those are all great career choices for those with a well rounded liberal arts education.

No offense intended here - but we have educated entire generations to think this way - it is evident when you examine the system. If the USA is going to compete in the future an entire change of the system is needed very soon.

The teachers union is emblematic of the system we have today - an attitude of entitlement and ambivalence.

And if we are to have a substandard system then yes - we should have a cheaper system too, Why should we be paying filet mignon prices when we are being served hamburger?

I guess for the last three decades there weren't too many conservative teachers who wanted the job because it didn't pay enough, and the benefits weren't worth it.

I am one of those with a "well rounded" liberal arts education in Sociology.....and I had a very lucrative career as a systems engineer developing computer systems for production machines.....then a second career as a data base designer, which led to my own business in data base design and maintenance for non-profits.....i also supplemented my income when the business was just getting going doing small business accounting. All this BECAUSE I had a well rounded liberal arts education allowing me to continue to learn and grow and be successful. Now what was it you were saying about liberal arts graduates having to collect trash for a living?

My son has a fine arts degree.....must be starving in a garrett somewhere right? Nope, he runs a very successful graphic design firm in NYC, and shows his fine art at galleries from NY down to FL.....yep, guess he just got tired of fetching your food.

As for hiring more conservative teachers....great idea, but where the hell will you ever find a conservative who would work for such low pay, and for such long hours, and with little to no respect for what they do? If they are like you they would never stoop so low as to be a teacher...

Conservatives tend to want to be paid by ability not the number of years waiting for their pay to increase.

Then why aren't there more of them? If they are so superior and their ability is that much greater, then they should excel in the profession. It's for sure the union wouldn't be holding them back.
